The Mustang Minute

August 16 - Summer Issue

Welcome (back) to the Coakley Middle School

I know many of you are thinking "it's too soon for this" while others may have sighed with relief knowing the end of a long summer is in sight. Whatever your reaction, mine is a little bit if both. My family and I had some wonderful vacation experiences (I've a included a few photos below) and it's always hard to come back to "real life". Summer at school is also a mixed bag - it feels like you have forever and yet it's over before you know it and usually before you have accomplished everything you had planned (I know my house is NOT as organized as I had hoped it would be by now).

Next week at the Coakley marks the time when we begin to gear up and make sure we are ready for our first day with students on September 6th. The custodians are busy cleaning every nook and cranny, the administration is putting the finishing touches on the schedule, teachers have been decorating their rooms and reviewing their September content. It's beginning to feel a little like fall around here!

On August 24th we will be sending home a letter via email that explains how to access your child's schedule in Aspen as well as arrival and dismissal procedures. On the first day of school all 6th graders will report to the cafeteria when they first arrive at school. 6th graders will be directed to the auditorium by peer leaders in colored t-shirts to meet their homeroom teachers and to be greeted by our administrative team. 7th and 8th graders will report to the gym first thing in the morning, They will then be dismissed to their assigned homerooms prior to the ringing of the homeroom bell at 7:25 a.m. Students and parents will also be provided access to Aspen on August 24th in order to see your child's schedule. You will need an Aspen log in to view that information. Please be advised that student schedules are NOT FINALIZED. We continue to make minor adjustments until the first day of school.

So welcome to all our new parents and welcome back to our returning parents! We have another exciting year ahead. This is the weekly newsletter for the Coakley Middle School that comes out every Friday. It contains upcoming events, newsworthy items, and a peek into life at the Coakley. This edition includes bus forms, recess donations. PTO, and new staff information along with important dates (if you scroll all the way to the bottom).

I look forward to seeing our sixth grade students and parents at our August 28th Ice Cream Social and meeting many parents at the upcoming "Coffee with the Principal" times. If you have any questions that are not answered via this newsletter, please do not hesitate to reach out! All of my contact information is located at the bottom of each newsletter.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer and we will see you soon!

Margo Fraczek

New Staff at CMS

We are excited to welcome several new staff members to the CMS faculty!

Sue Ryan has returned to us as our new grade 8 science teacher. She has been an administrator in Mansfield for the past couple of years but missed the classroom too much (and the Coakley of course).

Courtney Schick takes over as our band and orchestra teacher. Courtney has been leading the CMS Honor Band for several years and we are very excited to have her on full time!

Brittney Shane will be an intern in our guidance department this fall. Brittney is working on her masters at Curry college.

PTO Corner

The PTO meets the second Thursday of each month to hear an update from the principal and discuss planning related to enrichment, fundraising, activities and other topics of interest. You can also stay up to date with the CMS PTO by following us on Facebook. You can contact the PTO at

First Meeting of the year is September 13th at 6:30pm. Come be a part of an amazing partnership between school and home!
