Bear Tracks
October 5, 2020 • Updates from Roosevelt Elementary
- What's the big deal about attendance? To learn remotely, our Roosevelt Bears need to be present, connected, and supported every day. For the first few weeks of school, we were given flexibility from the State of Washington while we all figured out how to learn online.
- But, starting TODAY (October 5), we're required to mark excused and unexcused absences.
- What does "good attendance" mean? Check out the attendance ladder (above) to see where your child's attendance fits. We've had approximately 30 days of school so far this year. Here's what successful attendance looks like so far this year:
- Absent 0-1 days: 95-100% attendance rate so far this year = EXCELLENT!
- Absent 2 days: 90% attendance rate so far this year = GOOD, but close to danger zone
- Absent 3 + days: Less than 90% so far this year = DANGER ZONE
- No matter what, we can work together to improve or keep your child's attendance going strong. The key is building a regular routine—going to sleep and waking up at the same time each day, logging into the morning meeting every day, and setting aside time for Google Classroom activities. Please call our counselors at 573-1714 or 573-7183 if we can help.
Thank you for support! If you have questions about your child's attendance so far, please call Mrs. Maria Araujo, our attendance clerk, at 573-1700.
How do I RAPID RESET with my child?
- Mrs. Caralee Thomason was recognized for always trying to do the best for her students. She goes above and beyond to make sure she is meeting the needs of her students. She continues to learn and grow in technology so she can share engaging digital lessons.
Mrs. Thomason inspires all of us to be the best we can be! Way to go!
Imagine Learning
If your child is learning English, Imagine Learning is an online program that helps build English skills at school and at home. If your child receives English language services, he/she should log on with a Gmail address through the YSD Elementary Portal and spend 20 minutes each day on Imagine Learning. To learn more, watch the intro video at Imagine Learning at Home website or email our ELL/Migrant Student Advocate, Gabriela Madrigal (phone 573-1750)

How is my child counted PRESENT?
Your child is marked "present" if he or she logs onto Google Meet or Google Classroom and completes assignments each day. It's best to attend all Google Meets because the teachers can motivate, teach, and support your child. If your child misses a Meet, he/she can still learn throughout that day on Google Classroom with videos and independent work to complete ANYTIME. Please contact your child's teacher or our attendance clerk about absences so we can support you.
