Dear St. Bede School Families,

As our 2nd Graders make their First Holy Communion this weekend, let us look to one of the clear examples of what the Eucharist is all about. It comes from a resurrection story in Luke's gospel. After Jesus died and had risen, he meets up with two people walking toward Emmaus. The people do not recognize Jesus. As they walk toward Emmaus, they talk with great enthusiasm about the story of Jesus. A recounting of Jesus' life was given by one of the men. Afterward, the two people and Jesus meet around the dinner table. Jesus prays with them, blesses and breaks the bread, and gives it to them. The men finally recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread, but then he is no longer present to them. The two immediately went and spread the Good News that Jesus was alive! This passage, written around 75 AD, closely parallels what we continue to do in our Eucharistic gathering (Luke 24:13-35). Special thanks to Vera Eisen and Alyssa Retana for preparing our students for this important milestone in their spiritual lives.

You are cordially invited to attend our Inaugural Swing Into Spring celebration, which will be on Sunday, May 22nd, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, rain or shine. Our Swing into Spring event is preceded by Mass at St. Bede Church, beginning at 8:00 am. We will have activities for all generations to come and enjoy. There will be blow-ups/bounce houses and other games and events. Our school will be open to all: Come check out the classrooms, meet with teachers and staff, and see student artwork and projects on display. There will also be a special musical preview of our upcoming Spring Concert! Stop by the Scholastic Book Fair for a selection of summer reads and activities. Our Parish Knights of Columbus will be serving up some delicious dishes – hot dogs, walking tacos, and more! Young families are encouraged to meet with other young families from the Parish and school. Consider bringing your friends and neighbors. Please call Maria Tellez at (847) 587-5541 extension 222 or email her at mtellez@stbedeschool.com for more information.

Considera traer a tus amigos y vecinos.

May Crowning

Our annual May Crowning took place today, Friday, May 6th. May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic celebration that occurs annually in May. An image or likeness of the Blessed Virgin Mary is ceremonially crowned to signify her as Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God. The ceremony traditionally takes place with young children carrying flowers to adorn the statue. One of our 8th-grade students holds a crown of flowers for placement by an 8th-grade girl on the statue of Mary. We are blessed to have this opportunity to honor the Blessed Mother of Jesus and give thanks to her for bringing our Savior into the world!

Remember to get your Box Tops for Education in!

Remember to get your Box Tops in! We have raised 204.70 so far in the digital box tops app. Our goal is to raise $600.00 for the year for the school! We are doing a school-wide competition for Box Tops. If we can raise $600.00 as a school before the end of the school year, the PA will supply pizza for all of the students as a reward for meeting our goal! You can still turn in cut-out box tops, or scan them into the app. You need to download the “Box Tops for Education” App onto your phone to use the app. The app is free. Shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify the Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit your school’s earnings. The app is very user-friendly. See the attached flyer for more detail on using and downloading the app!
