Athlete of the Week Akili Roberts
Coach Thompson had this to say with his nomination of Akili for this award:
Akili carried the ball 7 times for 114 yards and 2 TDs in our win in the first round of the sectional against Anderson Prep. He had 6 tackles and 1 INT returned for 31 yards on defense in the first playoff win for Union City in a long time. Akili has matured in to an excellent leader for us this season and will lead us in to the second round of the playoffs.
This award is awarded each week in Randolph and Wayne Counties and is sponsored by Wetzel Auto, BSN Sports and Radio Stations WKBV (1490AM/100.9FM, Richmond), G1013FM (Richmond) and WZZY/Star 98.3FM (Winchester)

HERE’S HOW TO BE A GOOD TEAM PARENT
HERE’S HOW TO BE A GOOD TEAM PARENT
Are you a parent who wants to support your child’s high school team in the best possible way? Then here are four easy things you can do:
Attend your child’s games as often as possible.
Cheer for ALL the kids on the team, not just your own.
Be a resource for your child’s team, not a problem.
Focus on the life lessons your children are learning, not on won-lost records or how much playing time they’re getting.
Thank you for supporting your team and our school by being
a good team parent.

Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10-22-18)
"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"
Outside influences can sometimes be a distraction to the development and progress of a student-athlete. An example would be when an athlete pays more attention to a parent, a personal trainer, or a personal instructor over the coach that is actually coaching his or her team.
In today's world, those outside influences, even though the intent is to help you, could do more harm than good. Stop and think for a second; who is the person you need to impress the most in order to make teams and earn playing time? I hope you would answer that it's your coach.
While outside coaches and trainers can be valuable in skill development and physical development, the person you must impress the most is the coach. If the philosophies ever differ between the outside influences and your coach, be sure to play it smart and go along with what your coach wants and expects. That way you give yourself the greatest opportunity of playing!
