Novel Effect: Your Book Your Voice, Bring the story to Life!
Your book. Your voice. Bring the story to life. Music and sound effects follow along as you read your favorite children’s books aloud with Novel Effect.
A colleague of mine Suzanne Porath shared Novel Effect with me the other day. WOW what a cool app. I have been using it with my 18-month-old granddaughter, we are hooked!!
Novel Effect turns you into a master storyteller. Invisible technology follows along, as you bring the story to life and set your child’s imagination free Custom composed music and sounds treat each story with care, to honor the spirit and tone of every cherished books. Smart voice recognition stays in sync with your reading style, if you skip ahead or read a favorite part again and again.
FOR EDUCATORS: I teach 10 classes a day. Novel Effect's brilliance is that it focuses little ones on storytime and engages them in reading - using a device as a tool rather than a screen to show content. Susan, Elementary School teacher
Works with books you know and love.

Kindergarten teacher reshapes learning through Podcasts
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Lee County teacher is using podcasts to advance teaching in the classroom.
Chelsea Geiger, a Lee County Primary kindergarten teacher, uses a podcast as one of her teaching methods. Students write their own scripts and record what they learned through the week.
"We’ve been learning about math, ten plus three equals thirteen,” a student said.
Another student said they first learned about presidents and then about math.
“I tell my grown-ups at home that presidents really are great great,” another student said.

Can you spot when you’re being phished?
Phishing is: They send an email that pretends to be from someone you trust or a service you already use. Phishing emails generally attempt to hook you into sharing your account password, click a malicious link which gives an attacker control of your computer, provide a hacker with access to your school/business network so they can steal information or conduct other kinds of malware attacks.
And they are getting more difficult to spot and control. Google has a little quiz to help you learn. Take a few minutes and take the quiz. https://phishingquiz.withgoogle.com

Meet the digital gallery walk
When students create digitally, that doesn’t mean they can’t interact face to face. The digital gallery walk blends digital and face-to-face learning.
Collaboration is cemented as one of the four C’s in education, right along with communication, critical thinking and creativity.
When it comes to digital collaboration, one characteristic highlights almost all of our approaches.
Sitting.....A lot of sitting.
The concerns with obesity and Type 2 diabetes are well documented, along with the harmful effects of too much sitting on the brain.
How can we make a small step to get students out of their seats — and encourage them to share with an audience of their peers?

Wes Fryer shares his insight
Lessons Learned as a School Director of Technology
"This is my fourth year to serve as the Director of Technology at The Casady School in Oklahoma City, and I’ve been reflecting lately on the multitude of skills I’ve developed as well as “lessons learned” during my time of service in this administrative and leadership role. In this post, I’ll attempt to summarize (but certainly not comprehensively capture) some of these skills and lessons. These are listed in a rather random order, they are NOT prioritized. While I could write separate blog posts about each one of these, for the sake of brevity (and the vain hope someone will read this entire post and find valuable ideas here) I’ll try to limit my comments about each one to two or three sentences, and include helpful links when appropriate. (This proved impossible, however…) If you’d like to hear more about one or more of these, please let me know with a post comment, by reaching out on Twitter @wfryer, or using my electronic contact form. I may record an upcoming podcast episode on this topic / these ideas."
In reading through the list the one that really hit home for me was #5 Transformative Power of Instructional Coaching and #11 Importance of Digital Citizenship.
