Class Dojo

Kaitlin Jennings

This tool was made to help elementary teachers regulate their class. Each of the first grade classes at West Elementary in Valley Center use this to discipline and award their students for their actions.

This tool can be used in a few different ways. The first is to award each student for positive actions. There are many different categories to choose from, all the way from helping others to working hard. The second way this tool can be used is to discipline students. Just like with the awards, there are many different categories to choose from, all the way from bullying to no homework. Class Dojo seemed to be extremely effective in the classrooms in Valley Center. Most teachers put the website up on their SMART Board for the whole class to see when they are doing an activity and it reminded them how they were supposed to act. You are also able to send information to the parents via email with this site showing them how the class acted as a whole and how their child in particular acted.

Add a New Class

  1. Pick the name of your class (ex. Miss Jennings' Terrifically Awesome First Grade Class) and select the grade level being taught.
  2. Click the 'Create My Class!' button to move on.
  3. Now add your students. You are able to either type each name one by one, copy and paste a list of names, or import a roster.
  4. Click the 'Next' button to move on.
  5. Choose the behaviors you wish to be able to award and discipline your students with. Hint: if you start with only a few, you are able to go back and add more later.
  6. Click the 'Next' button to move on.
  7. Connect each student with a parent's email address to share behavior reports easily. They even give you a handout to send home with each student regarding the use of the site and how the parents can get connected as well!
  8. Click the 'Done' button to finish.

  • Take Attendance. Taking attendance has never been easier! Just click on the students who are absent to turn their bubbles red. This will eliminate them from being able to receive points for the day.
  • The 'Timer'. This is especially handy in the morning when the kids are first arriving. Put the timer up on the board and make sure they get to their seats and start the morning activity in a timely fashion.
  • Display settings: You are able to sort your class a few different ways, turn on/off the sounds, and decide whether or not you want the points to be shown publicly or privately.
  • Giving points: To give points, all you have to do is click on the student and choose what you want to reward or discipline them for! It couldn't be easier.
  • The 'Random' button: Chooses a random student and then you can decide whether to give them an point or take on away.
  • Reset. Use the reset button to take away all points the students have earned during the day.
  • Award Multiple Students: Allows the teacher to pick and choose the students she wants to either give or take a point away from.
  • Reports. This feature tells you where your class sits as a whole and individually for the day, week, and even month. It averages the points you have given out and creates a pie chart to show you the results.
  • Messages. With this you are able to send messages and reports out to parents. It is an easy way for the parents to stay connected with what is going on in the classroom and also deal with behavioral problems at home as they arise.
