Dear Parents
A Survival Guide to Parenting Teens: Talking to Your Kids About Sexting, Drinking, Drugs, and Other Things That Freak You Out, by Joani Geltman, is a gem. A parent recommended it to me, and I picked up a copy. In an age when conversations can be challenging, this is a great resource for you to use to set-up conversation of high expectations, safety, and love.

Music and Recognition & Pie, Oh My!
Then it was time for recognition of our various athletes, clubs and competition winners. The following groups had student representatives give a brief report of their season's highlights:
- Special Olympics Teammates' successes at the State level
- Music Department's District wins
- Science Olympiad's medals
- Mathcounts team's accomplishments
- Yearbook Club has submitted the final yearbook to the publisher
- Girls Basketball teams' records and team successes
- Track Team working together and achieving total domination at their first meet
- Art Club having a great year making beautiful art
Our final event of the morning was the BIG reveal of the faculty winner of the Builders Club "Pie in the Face" fundraiser to raise money for Parklund Fund. Anatoliy L. was the lucky student who got to hit our very own Mrs. Stahl (Infinity Program) with a fragrant Lemon Meringue Pie! She was a good sport considering she had no clue she would win and didn't even have a change of clothes. She smelled lemony fresh all day!!!
Still Need a Yearbook?
- With a check - made payable to Wredling
- With $25 cash
Just a Reminder:
Attention 6th Grade Parents:
The School Code of Illinois states that all children in grade 6 are required to submit an oral health examination to their school . Thank you to those parents/guardians who have already submitted their 6th grade child's dental examination to the school health office. If you have not yet done so, please present proof of your child's dental examination by May 14th, 2018. The examination must be performed by a licensed dentist, and may have been completed 18 months prior to the May deadline. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
We Want YOU!!!
In addition to the open positions posted on the PTO website, there are so many ways you can make a difference here at Wredling! FAMILY MINDFULNESS NIGHT
Thursday, April 26, 6:30-7:30pm
Bell-Graham Elementary School Cafeteria
Join us for a fun family event where Tracy Heilers, a yoga and mindfulness instructor, will lead us in some simple, yet highly effective mindfulness practices to ease the anxiety that is often created by our busy daily lives. Tracy will go over 6 Sustainable Happiness Skills and walk us through a typical day in the life of a fast-moving family, pointing out times where both kids and adults can infuse a bit of mindfulness along the way. This will include mindful breathing, mindful listening, some yoga poses that we can do in the office or classroom, as well as a guided body scan and gratitude practice that are a great way to end our day.

FAMILIES ATTENDING WILL BE ENTERED IN A RAFFLE TO WIN DECKS OF MINDFUL GAMES ACTIVITY CARDS!
- WHAT: Family Mindfulness Night
- WHO: Caregivers and their children (preschool-high school) in District 303
- WHEN: Thursday, April 26, 6:30-7:30pm
- WHERE: Bell-Graham Elementary School Cafeteria
- BRING: We will be sitting on the floor for portions of this event. A towel or yoga mat are encouraged, but not required.
- WHY: Jam-packed schedules and increased anxiety are the norm these days for parents, teachers, AND students. We can’t stop the waves of stress, but we can learn healthy ways to ease our anxiety and surf through any overwhelming feelings of worry, sadness, or anger that arise. Mindfulness exercises can help us unplug from technology and reconnect with ourselves and with our family. They also train our brains to have focus, attention, and emotional regulation. Feelings of joy, appreciation, and well-being are often the result with continued practice.
