DPM Newsletter - 4.28.23

Dear DPM Families,
With the official release of next year’s Deer Path bell schedule last Monday, we have received some frequently asked questions that we would like to clarify for all of our families across the community.
Q: What does Encore mean?
Q: Are there any changes to Encore course offerings in the new bell schedule?
A: All of the Encore classes from our previous bell schedule will continue to be offered including the same world languages and the same Creative Arts options. Students who elect to participate in Band, Orchestra, or Choir (BOC) will still have exposure to Creative Arts throughout the year across all grade levels.
Q: What will services look like for students who receive support?
A: Support services remain largely the same. Learning Strategies, Enriched Studies, and Tiered Reading/Math Intervention will all remain as course options for students with support needs. Just as with our previous bell schedule, those intervention classes would take place during an Encore class slot in place of a World Language or Creative Arts experience. A plan for any child with support needs will be determined in a meeting with their educational team.
Q: How did students contribute to the new bell schedule?
A: Students were involved at the beginning of the development process, and their voices served as a guiding light for our decision making process. To begin, students were offered to participate in focus groups by responding to a Google Form that was open to all grades through Schoology. Among the contributions, students expressed a desire for more consistency and longer passing periods. These themes were at the forefront of our discussions with staff as each iteration was developed and revised.
Q: How will students learn about the new bell schedule?
A: The Deer Path Administrators will be sharing the details of the new schedule with students before the end of the school year so they understand what next year will look like as they go off to enjoy their summer vacations.
We are excited for the many benefits and opportunities that the new schedule provides our students and staff. We are excited for the many benefits and opportunities that the new schedule provides our students, and we recognize that with any change there may be feelings of uncertainty.
If your child is interested in learning more about the bell schedule now, we encourage you to review the information with them on the Bell Schedule landing page on Deer Path website. If more general questions arise, please submit them here. If you have specific questions for your own student, please contact one of Deer Path Administrators for assistance.
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

Spring MAP Testing

Our teams compare Winter to Spring achievement and growth data to inform instructional planning and goal setting for individual students.
Parent Input Form
This is the time of year in which we begin making decisions about class placement for next year. When creating classes, many things are taken into consideration, including the individual learning styles and personalities of each student. We strive to have a well-balanced, academically heterogeneous group of students with a full range of learner abilities in every classroom. If you would like to share information about some unique aspect of your child's learning style and/or any specific academic and/or social concerns that should be considered, please respond to this Google Form by Friday, May 12. Please note that specific teacher requests will not be considered. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we work to create a wonderful learning experience for each and every student here at Deer Path.
