The Third Servile War
Nick Janardanan
Almost a Crushing Blow
The Third Servile War consisted of 120,000 male and female gladiator-slaves ruled by Spartacus rebelling against the Roman Republic. The vast majority of slaves in Spartacus' army were inspired to fight after witnessing Spartacus' victory over Glaber. Spartacus and his slave army pillaged Italy for two years, but in the end their attempts were in vain. This defeat lead to the transition of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.
