PSJA ISD B.R.I.G.H.T. Summer Reader 25 Years of Enchanted Readers
Congratulations to our PSJA Elvis J. Ballew CCTA students who were recognized as this year's B.R.I.G.H.T. Summer Readers! On September 16th, students and their family members enjoyed an enchanted evening at the Pharr Event Center. Thank you, Mr. Orlando Noyola, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, for accompanying our students! The event photos can be seen below. Enjoy!
Kudos to the District Library Department!
The District Library Department does a phenomenal job every year. Special thanks go to District Library Director Nora Galvan, Administrative Assistant Melissa Jimenez (pictured on the left) and Parent Volunteer Mrs. Elvia Gaona (pictured on the right).
Welcome, Author Jacqueline E. Smith!
In conjunction with the Border Book Bash, Author Jacqueline E. Smith was generous to volunteer her time to meet and greet our students and staff members. Jacqueline even donated nine of her novels to the library. Students may begin to checkout her books via their library account. Titles can be seen below.
Thank you, Art Teacher Ms. Castillo!
Ms. Castillo created a masterpiece of a broken mirror to use as a photo prop during Author Smith's visit. Eight students and two staff members received Jacqueline's book entitled Broken Mirror: And Other Stories. The books were personally autographed.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF LIBRARIES!!

Books on Wheels
Remembering September 11, 2001 by Using MackinVIA Resources
Using MackinVIA resources, history classes participated in a library lesson to learn about the events that occurred in New York City on September 11, 2001. Eleven library computers displayed MackinVIA resources: videos, photographs, articles, websites, eBooks and primary sources. Students read from three computers and engaged in a writing activity to explain what they learned from the resource. Many of our students were born after the September 11th events. Photos were taken by School Librarian Lisa Hernandez when she visited the 911 Memorial & Museum in 2017. Click on the link below for an interactive tour.
National Banned Book Week
A library book display was available for library patrons. It was interesting to see some of the book titles that were challenged or banned in 2018. Look closely. You might actually see a book you have read or would like to read.
TeenTober Book Giveaway
Tattered boxes marked “donations” arrived at the library. What were inside the boxes? Books, books, and more books. Awesome and free! In celebration of TeenTober, the library will be having a Book Giveaway for students on October 17th and 18th.
