V vs Murrow
Unity not Conformity
V's Speech
Murrow's Speech
Similarities
In Murrow's case, he begins by saying "It is my desire, if not my duty, to talk to you journeymen with some candor about what is happening to radio and television." He wants to explain to the News Directors that by intentionally withholding information about the state of the world from the people, they are contributing to the amount of ignorance in our world. He words his statement in a way that makes it sound as though he is on their side when he is really there to berate them.
Differences
During V's speech he says "How did this happen? Who's to blame? ...if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror." He is expressing his distaste for everyone who sat back and did nothing while their country fell into corrupt hands and blames them for allowing these men to remain in power. By this point he has dropped his friendly facade and is now attacking everyone for their insubordination.
Murrow on the other hand states " We are currently wealthy, fat, comfortable and complacent." By saying this he is explaining that people are so use to focusing on their own lives that they never even considered that there are other people with problems of their own.
