Citizens need more say.

Government with too much control will end badly

Citizens should have a say on laws and have power to make and enforce laws but without interfering with the basic morals of a government.

In “The Lottery” and “Harrison Bergeron”, both stories show poor actions in trying to solve a problem. The Lottery was set up to maintain a certain population by killing people while in “Harrison Bergeron” handicaps where set up so everyone could be equal.

Quotes and Analysis, "Harrison Bergeron":

“THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General” (Vonnegut 1).

This quote is saying/ explaining how everyone became equal because of the governments doings. This shows what a government can do when it has too much power and when citizens have no input. This is a power way of handling the problem because now there is no diversity so in no longer makes the US a capitalist country since everyone is the same.

Quotes and Analysis, "The lottery":

“Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. "It isn't fair," she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head. Old Man Warner was saying, "Come on, come on, everyone." Steve Adams was in the front of the crowd of villagers, with Mrs. Graves beside him. "It isn't fair, it isn't right," Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her” (Jackson 7).

This quote shows what could happen when a community has power without the government. This is both a good thing and bad thing. Good because the citizens should be able to have power/right and make laws and do things the way they think is right as long as they don’t cross the line by doing things that are cruel and unusual.

I think citizens need more say in a government system so a government doesn't go out of control with power and also so citizens have a say in laws and other government doings. Looking towards this coming election, some points that are most important to me are the candidates stance on pro life and pro choice, stance on the refugee crisis and whether or not the have what it takes to lead this country. The think I am most scared of is who ever elected president doesn't do any thing stupid that causes a chain reaction and in some way effects the citizens and the US as a whole.
