On August 15th of different years, Jennifer Lawrence, a famous actor, and Napoleon, a french emperor, were both born. Also on August 15th, Malcolm slaid Macbeth in 1057, which is significant to me because I played Malcolm in a showing of Macbeth at my old school. On August 15th 1914, the Panama Canal opens to traffic, and on August 15th 1899 Henry Ford left Edison to start his automobile company.

Major World Events of 2000

One major world event of 2000 is that Sydney, Australia hosted the Summer Olympic Games. Also, Vladimir Putin was elected the President of Russia, and is still the President today. A plane flight, of a plane called a Concorde, crashed soon after it's takeoff in France, and killed 113 people. Also, the Euro 2000, a soccer tournament, was hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands. 2000 was also the highest point in the stock market between 1990 and 2005, as right before 2000 the stock market was steadily climbing, but after it was falling drastically. This was called the dot com bubble bursting.

Pop Culture of 2000

Some of the most popular movies that came out in 2000 were How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Almost Famous, and Mission: Impossible 2. Some of the biggest movie stars were Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Benicio Del Toro. The most popular TV Shows were Sesame Street, Spongebob, Friends, and Law and Order. In 2000, the total revenue in the Music Industry from music sales and licensing was starting to drop. Fashion trends included shiny pants, stripes, streaky hair highlights, and jeans with high-heels. One popular food was Bacon. A few popular books were The Brethren by Jon Grisham, The Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy, and The Mark: The Beast Rules the World by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.
