Advent Challenge Week 1
Have your children do a couple of extra chores to earn some money. Then, take them shopping for hats, mittens and scarves. Bring your goodies to church and hang them on our Mitten Tree this Sunday, December 3rd, the 1st Sunday of Advent.
If you didn't have a chance to complete this challenge, feel free to bring your mittens anytime until December 24th!
Advent Challenge Week 2
Advent Challenge Week 3
Let the people who you DON'T see but who serve you every week know how much you appreciate them! Make a card for your mail person and a poster for your garbage pickup people. These are underappreciated jobs and they could really use some Christmas cheer in the middle of their (chilly!) day. Take a picture of your poster and mailbox - we'd love to see how creative you are.
Put a Bow on It!
Imagine the Joy that Elizabeth and Zechariah had - not only did they have the child they'd wanted their whole lives, but Zechariah could speak after 9 months of being mute. Plus, the angel had told them that their baby would be special - he would prepare the way for the Messiah!
Remember this week, when things seem impossible, don't worry. God is with us and with Him, all things are possible!
Did you miss picking up the take-home devotional this week? Here it is ...
FOR PARENTS
MORNING TIME
thinking of 31 reasons you can be happy. Have
each person in the family brainstorm their own
31 reasons, write them out on separate, small
scraps of paper, and put them in a container.
Each morning, on your way out the door, have
everyone grab a piece of joy from their container
and carry it with them the whole day to remind them
to be happy even when things don’t go their way
MEAL TIME
Christmas wish list? If you don’t receive that gift,
how will you feel? How will you react?
Ask a parent: What was the worst or most
awkward Christmas present you ever received?
Did you fnd a way to be joyful anyway?
BED TIME
birth of Jesus would bring “great joy for all the
people.” How did Jesus’ birth bring glory to
God? Peace to those on earth? Pray together
and ask God to remind you of the joy and peace
the promise of Jesus brings to all of us, even
when things aren’t going our way.
PARENT TIME
joy is the least peaceful and joyful for all the grown
ups? This month, set the tone of joy in your home b
playing joyful music, lighting mood-lifting candles,
taking an extra minute to pray quietly, and take dee
breaths throughout the day, or whatever helps you
remember the joy of the season. Participating in th
month’s MorningTime with your kids is also a great
way to model joy for your family. Take it a step furth
by discussing, as a family, how the pieces of joy
from your container helped to change your attitud
throughout the day. Because we all know, when th
grown ups aren’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!
