Suicide Prevention Month
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Understanding the issues concerning suicide and mental health is an important way to take part in suicide prevention, help others in crisis, and change the conversation around suicide. If your student is experiencing thoughts or feelings related to suicide, the National Suicide Prevention Line has a lot of information and resources.
https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/help-yourself/youth/
Studies show asking at-risk individuals if they are suicidal does NOT increase suicides or suicidal thoughts. In fact, studies suggest the opposite: acknowledging & talking about suicide may reduce rather than increase suicidal ideation. #SuicidePreventionMonth #BeThe1To

https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/help-yourself/youth/
#SuicidePreventionMonth # BeThe1To

Guidance Lesson!
This week our Nimitz Counselors are presented “Self-Care: Healthy Coping Skills & Mental Health” to your student through their Social Studies class, and next week our STEM Counselor will be presenting to your student through their technology class. We wanted to make you aware that the topics of conversation will be: identifying feelings and emotions, coping strategies, managing stress and anxiety, addressing depression, self-harm, and suicide prevention. At the end of each day, an asynchronous recording along with the PowerPoint will be posted in your students' class (Nimitz- Social Studies & STEM- Technology). We encourage you to have conversations with your student about the lesson, what they learned, and how they feel. We know some of these topics can be very sensitive for some, and we will do our best to recognize, validate, and help students process their emotions. We are available to our students, and their families, during each school week on an as- needed basis; just reach out. We want to assure you that we are here to support our students and community!
