JL Francis Library
SOAR with a good book in January!
Fifth Grade Book Study
Beginning January 11, 5th grade students will begin a book study of A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. This book tells the alternating story of two 11 year olds in the Sudan, a girl in 2008 and a boy in 1995. The girl, Nya, has to get water from a pond that is a two hour walk from her home; she makes this trip twice a day. The boy, Salva, becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan, refugees who cover the African continent on foot as they search for their families and for a safe place to stay. We are excited to read and discuss this powerful novel!
Book Fair Success!
Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the Book Fair! We raised a lot of money to purchase books for the library.
And congratulations to ___________________ for winning the drawing! You will be able to select a book from the Scholastic catalog.
What is a Book Tasting?
The first week back from break we had a book tasting in the library. During a book tasting, students are assigned to a table and they have books to look at on the table. This is a great way for students to see books from different genres, authors, and topics than what they usually read. We will then keep their papers on file in the library for students to look at when looking for a book. We will never hear "I don't know what to check out!" again!

Volunteers are needed to help in the library-shelve books, create displays and bulletin boards, any number of fun and rewarding activities! Contact Mrs. Moyer if you can help!
