...and now we bid a fond adieu
Dear Altadena Arts Magnet Families,
I cannot believe this is our final S'more of the year, but alas, here we are. As you enjoy this Memorial Day weekend, I hope you'll take a moment to remember and honor our service men and women who have lost their lives to protect our freedoms. School is closed on Monday in honor of Memorial Day.
We have a busy three days ahead before we bid a fond "adieu" to our students and families for the summer. And to our 5th graders, rising on to middle school, we hope you've found some joy and learned some things this year at AAM!
If you are planning on sending your student to Eliot Arts Magnet, please be sure to stop by to enroll them. Enrollment is not automatic. Students will be assigned to their neighborhood middle school, if you do not stop in to enroll. Please reach out to me if you need any support navigating middle school enrollment.
For our rising Cougars you will receive our Family Handbook in the mail at the end of June. In this comprehensive handbook you will find all the information you need to navigate the next school year including a full year's calendar of events.
Thursday, June 2 is our last day of school. Students are dismissed at 12:30 pm. Parents please be on time for pick up.
Please mark your calendars for our Welcome Back Popsicle Party on August 9 at 1pm.
Students and families will come to school to receive their classroom assignment, meet their teacher and parents will be able to sign up for PTA, ELAC, AAPC and more! All information will be in the summer mailer at the end of June.
Until then, I hope you rest, rejuvenate and enjoy what I hope will be a long and peaceful summer break. It is an honor to serve as your principal and I look forward to welcoming you back next year!

Promotion Activities this Week!
Kinder Promotion is on 5/31 by classroom. Kinder teachers have communicated directly with families.
Pre K promotion is on June 1st. Ms. Karina and Ms. Tia will communicate directly with our PreK families.
Fifth Grade Promotion is on June 1st at 8:30 am in the AAM auditorium.
5th graders come to school at 7:50 as usual.
Parents please find a parking place around school. We will open the front entrance of the auditorium at 8:15 am to seat parents and families.
All visitors must wear a mask.
No Balloons the building.
Seating is first come, first served.
The ceremony will be over by 10 am and we ask that all families take their 5th grader from school to enjoy your celebrations off campus.
Promotion Dress Code
We ask that our students are well dressed. Dress pants, button down shirt and tie (if you wish) with dress shoes are appropriate. Skirts and dresses with sleeves and just above the knee for those who wish to wear skirts and dresses. No sneakers, spaghetti straps or strapless outfits please. If wearing heels, we ask that students consider they will be walking up stairs and across the stage and therefore need to be able to walk in whatever shoes they choose.
PUSD Health Update
In an effort to continue in-person learning, PUSD is transitioning to a new isolation protocol for students who test positive for COVID-19. The new criteria is based on the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) Exposure Management Protocol to allow for a reduced isolation timeline.
MASKS ARE NOW REQUIRED FOR ALL VISITORS TO PUSD CAMPUSES. PARENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK FOR ALL PROMOTION ACITIVIES.
Our Previous protocol required COVID-19 positive students to isolate for 10 days. Beginning today, May 10, 2022, a COVID-19 positive student can leave isolation between Day 6 and Day 10 if specific criteria are met.
Students with COVID-19 can end isolation on Day 6 ONLY if all of the following criteria are met:
(1) A COVID-19 viral test** collected on Day 5 or later is negative; AND
(2) No fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine; AND
(3) Other symptoms are significantly improved and resolving --OR--
Isolation can end on Day 11 if the following criteria are met:
(1) No fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine; AND
(2) Other symptoms are not present or are significantly improved and resolving.
**The test must be an FDA authorized viral test (e.g., PCR or antigen test, including at home tests). An antigen test is preferred for testing out of isolation.
All PUSD students who return from isolation must wear a mask for 10 full days after the onset of symptoms or if asymptomatic, for 10 full days after the first positive test. Testing on Day 5 must be completed at the Primary Clinic at the Ed Center and observed by the nurse to guarantee proper procedure has been followed. The Primary Clinic Testing Nurse will fill out the appropriate documentation clearing the student to return to school. The student's principal, health clerk and school nurse will be notified of the student's return to school status in the event that they are cleared prior to their tenth day of isolation.
For students who are currently (prior to May 10) in isolation, if they have already completed 5 days of isolation, they should follow the new isolation protocol. If a student is directed to isolate on May 10 or later, they should follow the new isolation protocol. School Test Leads will assist in this communication.
