Roadrunner Review
October 18th, 2020
Riverview families,
Below you will find some information for in-person and virtual learning. Again, communication is key over the next couple weeks, and I will keep you all updated as we finalize plans. Thank you for all your support and patience!

Student Returning In-Person
Safety Procedures/Protocols
All students will be required to wear a mask daily. You may want to look at home to be sure you have multiple face coverings available for your child that is an appropriate fit and that could be washed or changed out daily.
What’s considered an acceptable or unacceptable face covering?
Acceptable face coverings: Cloth or paper coverings that contain at least two layers and cover the nose and mouth. Per CDC Guidelines.
Unacceptable face coverings: Face coverings without two layers, face coverings with vents or holes, gaiters, and face shields without a mask underneath. Per CDC Guidelines.
Staff, students and visitors will not be permitted to wear a face covering that contains references or content related to, pictures of and/or writing about alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, sexual acts, profanity, promotion of gambling, illegal drugs, disruptive symbols of hatred or intolerance (e.g., confederate flags, a swastika or other Nazi symbols, white supremacist symbols, etc.), and/or gangs.
Please send a spare mask in a ziploc baggie with your child's name on it in case masks need to be changed out from getting wet or dirty.
All water fountains are shut off through the school; HOWEVER, we do have a water bottle filling station. It will be student's responsibility to remember to bring with them a water bottle and to take it home on Fridays to be cleaned. We will NOT have extra water bottles at school should a child forget the one given to them.
What will a typical day look like?
- School hours are 8:30 to 3:30 with Wausau Child Care in our building before and after school (only for those students who are registered with WCC.)
- We will social distance throughout the day. This means that school will look differently than a "typical school day." Students will not work in close groups, have partners, sit on the carpet, or work at centers or stations.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided in the classroom each day.
- Students will have a 30 minute recess at lunchtime and and additional recess either in the morning or in the afternoon
- Encore classes (Science, Art, Music, Library) will be taught in the regular education classrooms. Teachers will come to the students' room to reduce physical movement around the building.
- Physical Education will hold class outside (weather permitting) or in the regular education classrooms.
- Before and after school procedures will also look differently. We will not have students play on the playground before school. Students will enter the building between 8:15 -8:30 AM. Students will be dismissed between 3:25 and 3:35 PM. We are still working out the details, so stay tuned for those.
What do my children need to bring?

Important School Dates
P/T Conferences
Fall Conferences are scheduled on Tuesday, October 27 from 3:45 - 7:30 pm and Wednesday, October 28 from 12:30 - 7:30.
We are also requesting that only the student and one parent attend the meeting. We understand that education takes partnership between parents, teachers, and family members, so if there are other adults that wish to partake in the meeting, we can provide that opportunity virtually. In addition, if you would like to participate in your conference virtually, please reach out to your teacher and he/she will set that up for you.
We want to do everything we can to help keep our community safe and healthy. The following will be required for all in attendance:
Wear a mask at all times.
Sanitize upon entering the building at provided sanitation station
Six feet of social distancing.
Avoid congregating with others in the hallway or parking lots.
Please use the main doors when entering the building.
To sign up for your conference, please use the following link.

You will have an opportunity during this time to bring school supplies (if in-person) and drop off any materials that were delivered at the beginning of the school year. This will also be a time that you will be provided with a brief description of what quarter 2 will look like, in addition to student progress in quarter 1. Stay tuned for more specifics.
Library Curbside Pick-up is here!
Remember to place an order for curbside pick-up!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Rodziewicz either through a Seesaw message or via email at krodziew@wausauschools.org.
Happy Reading, Roadrunners!
Virtual Learning Reminders
- Students are expected to be signed in and begin the virtual school day at 8:30 AM.
- Attendance will be taken each day (Monday - Thursday) between 8:30 - 10:00 AM by the homeroom teachers.
- If a child does not appear virtually during this time period, they will be marked absent. If a child is marked absent, a communication will be sent from the school office to the parent/guardian to confirm when the student will access content and complete learning.
- If communication is received from the parent/guardian, the child will be marked present.
- If no communication is received from the parent/guardian, the child will be marked absent.
- If you are having technology issues, please contact your child's teacher or the help desk.
Reminder that there are no classes on Fridays during this virtual learning time. Fridays will be used for students to catch up on any work they still need to complete and for teachers to have a planning day for the following week.
Blessings in a Backpack
Every Friday the Blessings in a Backpack program will be available at Riverview Elementary School. Distribution will be done as a drive up every Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm. Parents/Guardians can drive up and receive one Blessings in a Backpack bag per child. Numbers may be limited per school building, so it will be based on first come first serve. Blessings in a Backpack is a program that is offered in the Wausau School District and DC Everest School District to provide weekend meals for school age children.
Any questions about the program at Riverview, please contact Shelly Smith-Payant, School Social Worker, at 715-262-0038
