This will be my last update for our Green community. My last day on campus is December 20. Thank you so much for your care and support over the past twelve years. I am so proud of the Green students and staff. As I've reflected over the past few weeks, it's amazing how much we've experienced together. I am confident that Green will continue to thrive and will continue to improve and grow together. Ms. Blake is very, very lucky to join this incredible place. I wish you all every success as you continue onward. It's been great - thank you!

We have a schoolwide goal of reading one million minutes this school year. Students are actively logging their minutes read both at school and at home.

Research has shown a significant connection between time spent reading per day and reading growth and proficiency. Therefore, we’re recommending that all students read for at least 15 minutes each night. If your student is not yet reading independently, then having a grownup or older sibling read out loud to them will count too!

Each week, your student will receive a reading log with a 100s block. Simply color in one box of the 100s block for every minute spent reading, and then return the reading log each Friday.

Reading Challenge Prizes

Individual prizes will be awarded to students who read:

500 minutes

1,000 minutes

2,000 minutes

3,000 minutes

*The top reader from each grade level will receive a bag full of books!

*If we meet our school-wide goal, each grade level will get to pie a teacher in the face!

Our PAC meeting scheduled for December 9 is cancelled. Please look for information in the new year from Ms. Blake about future meetings.

The magnet office will be on campus that morning broadcasting on Facebook Live to highlight the work happening at Green. Be sure to follow Wake County Public Schools on Facebook and tune in Thursday morning, Dec 9 at 9:00 to check us out!

We have had many families ask us how they can do more to support our school community, especially with winter break approaching. If you would like to support the physical needs of our students and families, please consider the opportunities below. We appreciate your constant willingness to strengthen our community in both tangible and intangible ways - thank you! All physical donations can be dropped off at the front door of Green during school hours to be delivered to the school counselors.

• Support our Holiday Drive by donating to the student support services' Donors Choose Project Here
• Clothing and shoes: Weather-appropriate clothing for when students have accidents or need a new set of clothes after they get to school (All sizes appreciated, but especially those for our smallest and largest children)
• Snacks: Granola bars, individually packaged snacks, individual boxes of cereal, etc

Our wonderful Student Lighthouse Team has collected 33 boxes of food and supplies for the NC Food Bank to help support our community. Please join us in applauding and supporting their hard work to be kind and helpful community members. Way to go Student Lighthouse Team!!

It's that time of year when students are wearing their warm winter woolies. Please put your child's name on the tags in all coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. One day last week I picked up 11 coats from the playground. Please label clothing so that we can get it back to the right student and remind your children to pick up jackets after recess. Thanks for your help!

School is in session next Monday and Tuesday. Then we have a break.

School will remain in session each Monday - Friday beginning Nov 29 - Dec 17.

Dec 18 - Jan 2 HOLIDAY - school closed

Students return on Monday, January 3, 2022.
