We Are Up And Running
Another big thank you to everyone for being so understanding with all the days I have been gone! I am so happy to be back and I can tell the kids are as well. We are finally into our routine!! We currently are going full force with our guided reading, guided math, and writer's workshop. Students are having a great time choosing their own stations. They can choose from Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing. This is a time that we get comfortable and do our work!
College Go! Week
Next week is our College Go! Week. We are asking that all students wear their favorite college clothing or colors on Thursday, September 25th
Book buddies
We love our book buddies in Miss Kinney's room. Twice a month we get together with Miss Kinney's 2nd grade class and listen to reading and practice reading to them. We LOVE this time and the kids look forward to it every time we do it. We are also working on good manners and asking questions to our new buddies!
Fall Fundraiser
Our fall fundraiser is underway! We encourage you to send in your donations with the sheet sent home in the red First Day folders. All donations go towards buying items for the school and helping teachers purchase supplies die their classrooms. Thanks to all who have donated!
Grandparent's Day
Grandparents day will be celebrated in Friday, September 26th from 10-10:40am. Students will have the opportunity to show their grandparents things they have done in school. They will also interview them, read to them, and give them a tour of our classroom. We ask that grandparents don't stay for lunch, as our lunchroom is already very crowded! Background checks are not required for this day.
Next Week's Curriculum
In reading we will continue to talk about making text-to-self connections as well as making images in our minds as we read. When your child is reading at home, stop and ask him/her to think about what the story brings to mind from his/her own life. Other times, ask your child to picture what is happening in the story before you show them the picture.
In math, we will continue to work on addition and subtraction. We are working on facts using a ten-frame, doubles, near doubles, turn around facts, and story problems. Also, ask your child what is one more, one less, ten more, and ten less than a number.
In writing we will continue to work on using capital letters, punctuation, and spacing. We will continue to write about our lives and experiences. The students are doing great recognizing nouns and verbs. We will continue working in these as we look for them in text.
