Falco Newsletter May 10th - 14th
2021 Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson MS
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon Families,
I hope today you had the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful moms in your life (biological, chosen, step, honorary, aunts, grandmas)!
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year - just over a month to go! We are working on plans to honor our 8th grade students transitioning to a new adventure in high school and an event to acknowledge this transition of the Rachel Carson program to another site. Stay tuned for updates and invites!
This week is going to be warm so please help remind your students to drink lots of water and bring their water bottles to school if they’re in hybrid. One thing we’ve seen more of are families opting for in person hybrid and bringing their children to school without working with us to change their CDL designation. We have carefully planned for lunches, rooms spaces, and floor plans to accommodate students. Having students who up without talking to the school first creates the potential to need to move rooms for PE for instance. Please talk to the office if you’d like to have your students change from CDL to hybrid or from hybrid to CDL.
Soon you will receive a link for a parent survey from BSD. Please consider taking the time to fill this out! This survey helps us hear directly from you about different aspects of school in BSD. It’s important information to help us assess for future planning!
Have a great week!
Familias Falcon,
COVID 19 TESTING ON SITE
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
New or different than usual shortness of breath
New or different than usual coughing
Fever of 100.4 or higher
New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. For further information on the the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test

BEAVERTON SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM
Dear Five Oaks Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis
Beaverton Safe Routes to School Coordinator
