Sometime in the past year or two, I threw down the gauntlet: Any student that memorizes the full Glycolysis rap written by Glenn Wolkenfeld and performs it acapella and without any assistance, flashcards, etc. in front of the class will earn a large bonus on their lowest test or quiz grade, and will also earn munchkins for the whole class. Nobody had even attempted it. Until Eric Demers. Once I said nobody had tried it, he immediately started practicing. He did not disappoint. I tip my hat to you, sir. Well done.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Reminders and opportunities
Sophomores & families,
I'm happy to let you know that Sophomores are NOW ELIGIBLE to earn hours towards their 25 hr graduation requirement. (Including with activities like Care Packages for Troops)
The History Department-with our core mission of promoting active and responsible citizenship- facilitates this project to help students deepen their appreciation for service while making a positive difference in their community.
See the project Guidelines for details, and see the Modifications--in effect through the pandemic-for expanded options for earning and documenting hours.
To document hours, students use this form which can be found in the history hallway or in the guidelines. Students obtain signatures from a “Site Supervisor:” -to verify the service was performed-and their History “Teacher” (or designated staff if not taking history) to confirm the activity is eligible and to have progress tracked.
I’ll occasionally email new opportunities that will also post in Carver Chronicles. Sophomore history teachers will review the project with 1st semester students by the end of term 2, and with 2nd semester students early in term 3.
Please let me, your student's History teacher, or designated staff know if you have any questions.
Best,
Brian Lamoureux
History Department Chair

Assistance for lost/stray animals in Carver
DId you know?
Carver lost its actual animal shelter building many years ago.
We were fortunate that Lakeville Animal Shelter stepped in and offered to let us be part of their collaborative shelter.
If an animal is found in Carver, we have a holding area behind the old police station. The animal does not stay there very long. (Less than 24 hours) in hopes it will be reunited with owners.
If not it is brought to the Lakeville facility where it will be put on hold for 7 days. before it can be legally put up for adoption.
It is very admirable of the Carver students to be supportive of any shelter.
I know that many folks in town do not realize this is where our strays and lost dogs/animals go.
The shelter is located Montgomery St Lakeville Ma
(just off route 18 & 105.)
508-947-3891
and it run an operated by Dave Frates, Jennifer Nash and a few others
Thank you to all the Carver students and families for all their kind efforts
Karen Lapham
