Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon Dragon Family:
It was truly an honor to celebrate our Veterans this Thursday with the Purcell High School Veteran's Day Assembly. Veterans Day is a special day personally as my father served in Vietnam, my grandfather in World War II and my great-grandfather served in World War I. I have a deep and profound respect for those who have chosen to serve their country. It's a powerful lesson for our students to see and hear directly from those who have served. It's a lesson even more powerful than those they learn in classrooms everyday.
Captain Tom McCurdy's words were moving and emotional. He spoke from his heart and he connected with all of our students. We greatly appreciate him sharing his personal story with each of us. It helped our students better understand the value of service which is a key piece of our Dragons F.I.R.S.T core values: Building a sense of service to school and community is a foundation of the learning experiences we seek to provide students. This is reflected in our programs like Leadership, STUCO, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. Our students having an opportunity to celebrate our veterans is critical to building this value in our kids. After all, our Veterans represent the highest order of service: service to one's country.
Finally I would like to thank our National Honor Society students and their sponsor Katie Clayton. They worked very hard over the last month to plan and organize a meaningful and moving assembly. I would also like to thank our Band and especially Senior Raleigh Savage for his moving rendition of Taps. It was truly a special day and this was in no small part due to the efforts of our Honor Society, Ms. Clayton, and our Band. I would also like to express how proud I am of our student body. The gave our Veterans the respect they deserve and represented our school and community with class.
Proud to be a Dragon.
Jason

Sophomores visited MATC this past Thursday, 10/28. They took a full two-hour tour of the campus, heard presentations from teachers, and revisited their top choice for an additional 30 minutes after lunch. Many of them indicated they would like to talk further about their options out there. MATC representatives will return to campus in January to begin those talks with individual students. To learn more about what MATC has to offer and how it works in a high school schedule, visit matech.edu.

Important Safety Updates
- Safety Alerts for Off-Campus Students
One of the recommendations brought to me by my Parent Advisory Council was to provide a way to alert students who may be off campus of a lockdown situation. This would be our Concurrent and Internship students. The concern would be that students may unwittingly return to campus during a lockdown situation which could potentially place them in harms way.
I have created a Remind link for all of our Concurrent and Internship students. Remind is an app that many of our staff use to send mass communications to parents and students. All concurrent and internship students have been invited to the link and most have accepted. I would send an alert to these students in the case of a lockdown or lock-in situation. A lockdown is when there is an imminent safety threat to the building. A lock-in (or soft lockdown) is when there is a general threat in the area but not an immediate threat to the building. We practice protocols for both types of drills regularly.
This will allow off-campus students to be alerted to the situation and to avoid coming to school until the lockdown or lock-in is cleared. In the case of an actual lockdown or lock-in parents would receive official information directly from the building principal via parent email or from district administration through text alert.
- Emergency Dismissal Forms.
Please access link below to sign a digital form allowing your student to dismiss from school without your permission in the case of an emergency. This form allows students who drive cars to dismiss from school, without a parent check-out, in the case an emergency or rapid dismissal is announced by the Principal or district administration. This allows us to more safety and efficiently move kids from the building.

What's Happening @ PHS
Staff Celebration - Stefanie Renfro
Stefanie is the type of teacher who strives to create more opportunities for students and cares deeply for her kids. She is kind to everyone she encounters and helps lead school improvement initiatives throughout our building. She is also the chairperson of our electives department.
This week Stephanie Knowles, Intermediate PE teacher shared a kind message about Stefanie and her class and a picture of her students waiting for the high school kids to come. It's a heartwarming picture and a we appreciate Stephanie taking the time to write the message.
I've also shared some pictures of Nate Willis who is working at the Intermediate School as part of our HS Internship Program.
Good morning Mr. Sanders!
I just wanted to brag on your students! The kids at the intermediate building look forward to the high schoolers visiting us each week! Here’s a picture of my third graders waiting at the door for Brian Bernal and Isaiah Lee. They ask everyday if “my helpers” are coming! Please let the teacher and students know how much we appreciate this program!
I can’t say enough about Nate Willis! He is an incredible young man, and has been a great role model for our kiddos. He’s such a hard worker…I’ve even seen him umpiring on the weekends and is helping out my little basketball team on his free time. I think working with kids is his gig!
Just wanted to thank you and let you know your kids are doing great things for our school and community!

PHS Students of the Month
Congratulations Haileigh Smith and Brodrick Smith for being selected by their teachers as November Students of the Month. This is a prestigious honor that recognizes not only academic work but citizenship and a commitment to Dragon values.
Haileigh is the daughter of Tammy Smith and Michael Smith. She is a member of the varsity softball team and is also active in FFA. Haileigh's favorite class is office aide and she plans to attend NOC and then transfer to OSU.
Brodrick is the son of Derick and Gail Smith and Rachel and Joey Fisher. Derick is a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. His favorite class is math and he plans to attend college and become a math teacher. Way to go Brodrick!
We are very proud of Haileigh and Brodrick.
PHS Academic Team Excels @ Conference Tourney
Congratulations to the Purcell High School Academic Team and to Noah Gracey!
On Thursday, November 4th, the Purcell High School Academic Team coached by Jack McNeely, defeated Lindsay, Newcastle and Blanchard in a 13 team tournament to win the 2nd place trophy. The 1st place trophy for the overall highest scoring individual during this year's conference games went to Purcell's sophomore Noah Gracey. The High School Academic Team now starts OSSAA competition at Regionals on Saturday, November 13th at Plainview High School in Ardmore.
PHS Cheer Have a Strong Competition @ Gameday Regionals
We are so proud of our PHS Cheerleaders. They have done so much to lift school spirit this year including organizing and leading pep rallies, leading marches through the school, performing at the other schools, cheering on other teams and welcoming our staff back to school this year. This past weekend they competed at Gameday Regionals and had a very successful day. Here is a report from Coach Kerri Raper:
We scored 24th out of 45 teams. We had some tough competition and scored better than last year. The good news is that we are moving up! The girls were very proud of themselves and they have worked hard to get where we are. We had to make last minute changes in our routine due to an injury and they still rocked it!

Dragon Football ends a successful season.
Our football season ended earlier than we would have hoped Friday night against State # 1 Marlow but we are extremely proud of our players and coaches for a great season. They had a winning season and got better as the year progressed. This is a reflection of how hard Coaches and players worked. We thank you for representing your school and community every Friday night.
We would also like to thank our parents, volunteers, Rotary club, booster clubs, mama dragons, football managers, our medical staff including Head trainer Tim Arnold, Purcell police, fire dept, Wadley’s ambulance service, cheerleaders and band and their coaches and sponsors.
I’d also like to thank assistant AD’s David Sikes and Sarah Jones and athletic secretary Cara Simonton who handle most of the event planning and gameday planning.

GoFan Online Ticketing
The new ticketing policy allows Purcell High School to operate a more efficient and professional ticket gate while creating a safer and enhanced fan experience. Buying tickets online allows fans to access and share tickets easily by email or text without standing in line.
Fans are encouraged to buy tickets online prior to reaching the facility. For your convenience, signage will be set up at the venue to help fans navigate an online purchase quickly and easily.
We understand this is a change and there will be bumps along the way. However we think our fans will quickly see how easy it is to buy a ticket, share a ticket with family, and quickly access an event. I've shared some helpful links below which will provide extra help with the process.
