Reminders and Happenings
March is Reading Month!
I would like to encourage all families to emphasize the importance of reading at home. Here are some tips to integrating reading into your daily family activities:
*Read bedtime stories
* Play a board game
*Visit your local library
*Read a recipe and cook something together
*Create a comfy reading space in your home
*Put your child in charge of reading the grocery list at the store
Here are ways to choose books that are at an appropriate reading level for your child.
*Use the five finger rule - Open the book to any page and ask your child to read. Put up a finger every time your child does not know a word. If you have to put up more than five fingers before the end of the page, this book is too hard for your child
*Choose books that match your child’s likes and interests
*Check for understanding after every two pages
*Make sure your child is reading at a steady pace
“The more that you read, the more things that you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”—Dr. Seuss

"Jude shows Raider Pride every day. His kind words and greetings are heard on a daily basis. Jude cares about his education and other students. His work ethic is much appreciated. Jude follows directions and understands the importance of staying in control. He demonstrates a positive attitude even when he might be struggling with a concept. He is accepting of other students and works well with them. Jude is always willing to help out in the classroom whether it is for another student or myself. It is a pleasure to have him in the classroom. I am so proud of him! "
