Congratulations to Band Director, Mr. Dave Weston, and the High School Band, for winning 1st place at the 1A/2A OSAA State Competition on Friday, May 12th! The band performed three very complicated pieces and had to test their sight reading ability by playing music pieces that they had not yet seen or practiced. Way to go Tigers, we are so proud of you!

Students & Parents: we are currently forecasting for next year's classes. We have many classes available, including college dual-credit options, and now is the time to get these confirmed. Spring Reboot Reminder- Cell phones should be put away in your locker or backpack during class time. They can be out for a specific educational purpose only. We need to finish the year strong and with the focus on learning in our last weeks!

The BHS band will be performing their final band concert of the year on May 23rd, at 7:00 PM in the BHS gymnasium. If you have not taken the chance to listen to these talented students perform, you do not want to miss out on this opportunity!

Students we only have three and half weeks of school left for the year, be sure to be checking your grades on your Student360 accounts and turning in any missing assignments you may have.

The class of 2027 is having a fundraiser raffle! This raffle is put on by a parent volunteer group and is not school affiliated. Tickets are $10. You can purchase them via the office, the numbers on the flier, or through VENMO @Elizabeth-Hewitt-8thgradefunds.

The 8th grade class is holding a bottle/can drive to benefit the 8th grade promotion party. Please bring any bottles or cans you have to our office!

Our lost and found is full! Please remind your student to take a moment to come look through it.

All of our students should have signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

The Character Focus for the month of May is Creativity.

Valley Flora wanted to alert you to a few new programs that we - and other NW farms - are spearheading in in order to make fresh, local produce more accessible to low income families in our community. We’re trying to get the word out as widely as possible. If you have a spot to hang a poster (attached below), or room for a mention in your next newsletter, that would be wonderful! We are happy to provide you with a color-printed poster, just let us know! Also, please feel free to forward this email to anyone in your networks who would benefit from knowing about these programs.

• Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB): a program that helps low-income Oregonians purchase more fruits and vegetables while supporting local, family farms. Folks with SNAP benefits can purchase one of our farm’s community supported agriculture (CSA) shares and DUFB will provide 1:1 matching funds (they pay half the cost of the CSA with SNAP and DUFB covers the other half). It's a win-win that strengthens our community by providing better access to fresh, healthy food while helping local farmers earn a living.

• CSA Sliding Scale: our farm is offering a voluntary sliding scale payment system in order to make our food more accessible to everyone in the community. It’s been a beautiful example of community - and humanity - at its best.
