Week 10 Term 3 SFDS Newsletter

St Francis de Sales - 28 September 2021

Kia Ora Ano

The end of a very crazy term 3 with lots happening here at school. Tomorrow we celebrate Catholic Schools Day – in the afternoon our buddy classes will be getting together and sharing a fun activity and an ice block!

On Thursday we have our Ranginui open day – if you are keen to come along and see how Ranginui work please register. You will get to see their amazing programmes in action and hear all about Ranginui’s point of difference.

Our amazing Ranginui learners have been working hard this week and will have their speech finals on Thursday. This is always an amazing experience. They are very talented individuals with so much to share. I know that they have worked really hard and that they are super nervous, but I personally can’t wait to hear and see their learning – please keep them in your prayers; it certainly isn’t easy to stand up in front of your peers and teachers – it take a lot of courage!

This Friday we have year 8 learners versus our staff Netball game! Go the staff!

Last Friday our Ranginui learners held our annual Mission Fair – they did a wonderful job of planning, organising and running this afternoon for our learners. Huge hat’s off to them all for their commitment to service in our community. A few pictures of some very happy learners below!

We also celebrated on Friday with a whole school hui. So many learners living our school values. Congratulations to:

Otto T, Henry M, Olivia M, Evalina C, Israel G, Ella L, Jackson S, Isla S, Matty H, Isla K,

Dawit T, Emma B, Indya O and Molly B

who were our values certificate recipient’s and to our Principal’s Cup winner Xanthe H!

Well done to Avila House who won the House Cup for the most values cards earned! And to Brady P who was the house winner of the movie voucher.

I hope that you get to spend some precious time enjoying your tamariki over the break.

Stay safe and take care.

Nga Mihi Nui

Thank you to those who have registered their child/ren for term 4 sport. Please keep an eye on your emails for updates about games etc. The Floorball organisers are hoping to have their information out about their league this week.

We are holding this on Monday 1 November (Monday of week 3, term 4) at Newtown Park. This event relies on parent/caregiver help because of the number of athletics events we need to run during the day. Please email Sarah on sarah.fountain@sfds.school.nz if you are able to help for all or part of the day.

If you have any Yummy Sticker collection sheets (doesn't matter if it's not full yet) or cut outs from bags of apples at home, then please send them into the school office. We will receive free sports gear when we send these in over the holidays. We will keep collecting these next term and into next year for the next year. Thanks for your support.

The end of season prizegiving will be held for all players in our school library on Friday 22 October (first Friday of term 4) from 3.15 onwards. All players are invited to bring a plate of afternoon tea to share.

There will be an end of term lunchtime sausage sizzle this Friday.

We are now taking orders through Kindo and we encourage you to order through Kindo to

help us know in advance how many sausages we will need to cook. As usual, sausages will be $2 each with gluten free and vegetarian available. Please contact Fran or Suzanne in the office if you need help with ordering on Kindo.

A huge thank you to the families of rooms 2 and 8 who have donated the goods and are coming in to run the event.

A new date has been set for the amazing annual PSL/SFDS Quiz Night! Friday 29 October.

In preparation for the upcoming quiz night we are holding a MUFTI DAY this Friday – the last day of term!!

Please remember that if your child needs to be collected before the end of the day or during the day for any appointments the process is that you MUST come to the office – and a staff member will collect your child/ren for you.

We are seeing an increasing number of students wearing mufti items of clothing to school. Please ensure your child/ren wear the correct school uniform to school, including the correct socks.

Students are expected to wear the school PE shorts on their PE days. There are track pants available to buy through the uniform shop that can be worn instead of the PE shorts on cold days.

The school hoody is to be worn with PE gear only.
