How Vitamin D helps you
Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut. it also maintains phosphate concentrations. This enables the bones to be healthy. It's other roles in the human body is modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation.
What happens when you don't have enough.
Without sufficient vitamin D bones can become brittle, thin, and misshapen. It prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.
Sources of vitamin D
Very few foods in nature the flesh of fatty fish and fish liver oils are the best sources. Small amounts are in beef liver, cheese and egg yolks.
