PROGRAM:
The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award Program was established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement. One senior from each county in Ohio will receive this annual honor.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be a high school senior enrolled in a public school district - local, city or exempted village - within the ESC’s service region. Recipients should demonstrate outstanding academic achievement as indicated by high school grades, test scores, and school activities and awards. Educational Service Centers that are multi-county agencies are to select one high school senior from each county in their service area.
AWARD:
One student from each county will be invited, along with his/her guests, to attend a special recognition luncheon at the Hilton Columbus at Easton, 3900 Chagrin Drive, Columbus, OH 43219. (A student’s guests are limited to a total of five (5) individuals and include himself/herself, parent(s), school officials and ESC superintendent.) Registration materials for the awards brunch will be sent by OESCA.
SCHOLARSHIPS for FUTURE TEACHERS
The University of Toledo is now accepting applications for scholarships specifically for high school seniors who want to become teachers.
The University of Toledo annually awards nearly $5 million. These college scholarships are on top of any merit and university-level awards. We invite seniors to apply for scholarships for the 2020-21 school year, so they can be one of our award winners! The deadline to apply for all education scholarships is December 1, 2019.
Additional information is available at: utoledo.edu/education/scholarships
FEATURED SCHOLARSHIP: Herb Scholars Program, the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the Judith Herb College of Education. The Herb family recognizes, encourages and supports teachers of the future as they make their way into classrooms that will generate the leaders of tomorrow. Practice Good Sportsmanship
All parents of athletes are encouraged to read this. CLICK HERE
If you are a parent attending a high school athletic event this year, you can help by following these six guidelines:
Act Your Age. You are, after all, an adult. Act in a way that makes your family and school proud.
Don’t Live Your Life Vicariously Through Your Children. High school sports are for them, not you. Your family’s reputation is not determined by how well your children perform on the field of play.
Let Your Children Talk to the Coach Instead of You Doing It for Them. High school athletes learn how to become more confident, independent and capable—but only when their parents don’t jump in and solve their problems for them.
Stay in Your Own Lane. No coaching or officiating from the sidelines. Your role is to be a responsible, supportive parent—not a coach or official.
Remember, Participating in a High School Sport Is Not About Getting a College Scholarship. According to the NCAA, only about 2% of all high school athletes are awarded a sports scholarship, and the total value of the scholarship is only about $18,000.
Make Sure Your Children Know You Love Watching Them Play. Do not critique your child’s performance on the car ride home. Participating in high school sports is about character development, learning and having fun—not winning and losing.
