BOISE SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPOSED MODIFICATION TO 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
September 5 & 6: The public is invited to attend two public focus group meetings to discuss the Boise School District'sproposed modification to the 2018-19 school year. The meetings will be held as follows:
- Tuesday, September 5th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Whitney Elementary School, 1609 S. Owyhee St., Boise
- Wednesday, September 6th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Lowell Elementary School, 1507 N. 28th St., Boise
With a focus on student achievement, the Boise School District's Board of Trustees in October of 2017 will consider modifying the 2018-19 school year calendar to end the First Semester prior to the Winter Holiday Break, which will result in ending the school year before Memorial Day weekend, the last week of May. Currently, First Semester ends about two weeks after Winter Break and secondary students spend that 'break' studying and preparing for their final exams. The school year currently ends after Memorial Day in June. A public comments website has been created to accept input from Boise School District parents/guardians, students, staff members and patrons.

A Letter from the Counselor
Parents and guardians of Monroe Elementary students:
Happily, I am your child’s school counselor for this academic school year. My name is David Grapp and I am the returning counselor at Monroe Elementary. I am a licensed counselor in Idaho and a Nationally Certified Counselor and have worked in both private practice and clinical counseling. Additionally, I have worked as a teacher for twenty years. Along with Jeff Farley, Monroe’s principal, and the Monroe staff I would like to welcome you to Monroe.
I will be teaching units in all classes—kindergarten through sixth grade. Some of the topics I will cover are conflict resolution, firearm injury prevention, drug education, personal safety, learning styles, multiple intelligence, and friendship skills.
You may refer your child to the counselor by contacting me at any time during the school year. If you feel comfortable, Please fill out and return the form attached to this link. Additionally, you may refer your child for a support group anytime during the school year. Groups are a powerful way for children to share with one another and receive my support as well as the support of peers in a confidential and safe setting. Some of the issues that attract students to group are divorce, grief, or other losses like moving, depression, or loneliness.
I am at school from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the week. Please do not hesitate to call me at 854-5624. I am here to ensure your child has a safe and successful school experience.
I look forward to visiting with you.
Fondly,
David Grapp
