Rosa Parks Elementary Rocket News
September 23, 2019
Hello Rocket Families!
We want to thank all our parents for your patience this week during our rainy day drop off and dismissal. We also want to thank our parent volunteer who jumped in and assisted with morning drop off. As we continue through hurricane season, we know their will be rainy days. Please be certain to read through the "Rainy Day" drop-off and dismissal expectations to keep everyone safe.
We want to let you all know as we see changes in procedures and practices that occur here at Rosa Parks Elementary, we will continue to communicate through our Family Newsletters. We will use this information along with community feedback to develop a campus handbook to assist families here at RPE.
~Ms. Kent and Mrs. Agina

Rainy Day Drop Off Procedures
We want to ensure our students get to school safe and you are able to move through the line efficiently. Please follow the following procedures during our morning drop off:
- Doors Open: We open the building for our students at 7:30 a.m.
- Extended Day Drop Off: The Extended Day drop off area will close daily at 7:30 a.m. as staff are on duty to receive students and the Extended Day staff are no longer working at this time as they have dismissed students to their designated areas.
- Pull Up: When you come through the line, please adhere to the staff on duty each morning. Pull all the way up to the second cross walk. Please look to the staff on duty to direct traffic. If the staff on duty ask you to wait stop for the crosswalk, please do so. If you are asked to stop, please stop and wait.
- Passing Lane: Please do not use the passing lane unless you have made your way outside of the unloading zone, which is past the second cross-walk. When passing, please do not speed up to pass another car.
- Tardy Bell: We will adjust tardies depending on the availability of staff and the number of car riders in line.
- Volunteer: If you are available to help assist our staff in the morning, please complete this brief form and a staff member will contact you. Volunteers can help the campus one day out of the week or as many days as you are able to assist.
Rainy Day Pick Up Procedures
- Announcement: An email and call out will be made to families each time we dismiss with a "Rainy Day" dismissal format. When the call out occurs, please adhere to the following procedures.
- Car Rider: Our car rider's will exit the building in the same manner in which they are picked up each week.
- Walkers/Bikers: All bikers and walkers will be required to either be picked up as a car rider, parent walk to the cafeteria door to pick up, or give permission to the front office for their child to walk home. No student will be allowed to walk home if the inclement weather includes the following: lightning, tornado warning, tropical storm/hurricane warning.
- Daycare: All daycare students will dismiss in the same manner in which they are on any given day
- Buses: Please be mindful the buses may be delayed depending on when they arrive on campus. If there will be a delay, a call-out will be sent to notify parents of the delay.
- Change of Transportation: If you would like your child's dismissal changed upon receiving notice of a "Rainy Day" please contact the front office and let the staff know of the change. This information will be shared with the classroom teacher. Unless you receive a direct phone call from your child's teacher, please do not leave messages on voicemail and/or email regarding changes in transportation as teachers do not have access during the instructional day.
Lunch Applications
REMINDER: All families must reapply every year for assistance with lunch. If you are in need of support with lunch, please be sure to complete the free and reduced lunch application. We want to help ensure every student is able to receive breakfast and lunch every day.
