Spotlight on the Classroom
What state interests you? Do you want to travel to a different country? Our third-grade students have been busy researching different states and countries. As a way to highlight all the interesting facts they have learned, they either created a google slide presentation or created a float displaying all the fun facts they learned. Pictured here is Molly Gilreath, from Mrs. Cupp's class, showing one of the many great projects.
Fourth grade GT students are having a ball with their new module. As the owner of their very own Snowman Construction Company, they are competing to create the best snowman for the town. They are using problem-solving strategies and budgeting requirements to build a snowman for their community. The mayor of the town will choose the best snowman based on creativity and how well students met the requirements. Students will continue this module next week by creating a sales pitch for their snowman. See an example below - Greta Shultz certainly has a great sales pitch!
Black History Month
Fifth grade GT students finished their module focusing on Martin Luther King, Jr. and his role as an advocate during the Civil Rights Movement. Students looked at an excerpt from his "I Have A Dream" speech and made connections between his speech and his letter he wrote from Birmingham jail. Students used conceptual thinking words to connect the two texts. They chose words such as human rights, relationships, ethics, power, and change. Some students even chose their own concept words, such as enlightenment and faith. Students talked about King's role as an advocate and how our country would be different if he hadn't been assassinated. Students did a great job sharing their thoughts in this module.
