How do you respond when students don't learn?
Increase achievement with response to intervention
RTI—also known as a multitiered system of supports (MTSS)—is a systematic process that helps ensure all students receive the time and support needed to learn at high levels.
Unlocking the potential power of RTI requires more than state guidelines, site resources, and dedicated staff. Teacher teams must also ensure a clear understanding of what they expect students to learn—and a deep commitment to making sure every student learns it.
- A coherent and viable core curriculum that embeds ongoing monitoring for all students.
- Immediate and targeted interventions systematically applied and monitored for any students not achieving.
- Intensive interventions focused on closing gaps.
The right work, done right

TIER 3 - Intensive interventions focused on closing gaps
SUSD teams of teachers and administrators will attend the RTI at Work Conference in Pasadena on December 6-8. Teachers will define essential learnings and deliver differentiated instruction, create a toolbox of effective response to intervention strategies and practices, identify students for intervention and determine their unique needs, and monitor student progress and revise interventions or extend learning based on progress. SUSD Administrators will learn to increase educational achievement by developing and implementing a schoolwide or districtwide system of interventions, create a school leadership team to lead the shift to a culture of collective responsibility, address complex issues such as severe motivation, attendance, and behavior issues, as well as English language proficiency and intense academic struggle and utilize a schoolwide intervention team to monitor the success of the RTI program.
SPECIAL PROJECTS DEPARTMENT
Elementary Constructing Meaning Training
SUSD is building teacher capacity which impacts our student’s learning! This week our EL TOSAs began their in-person apprenticeship with our EL Achieve Trainer Laura Jasso. Their apprenticeship process will take them through a series of 5 training dates spread out through the school year. When their apprenticeship is complete, our EL TOSAs will be able to be certified trainers to provide Elementary Constructing Meaning Training to our elementary teachers! This year we are able to provide Constructing Meaning Training to some elementary schools to help support our teachers with Integrated ELD which will directly impact our SUSD student’s access to content area standards throughout the school day! Way to go SUSD Teachers!!

A Message From SUSD Technology Department:
Dear Educators,
In order to improve the online safety of our students while using district email accounts, beginning when students return in January, we will have strict email rules for students where they can only receive emails from district email addresses and from pre-approved outside sender email addresses.
Please let me know of any emails from outside senders that you need your students to receive by filling out this form prior to leaving for Winter Break.
When students return in January, it may take a day or two to iron out the kinks in case any email senders were missed, so we appreciate your patience during this transition.
Thank you for your support!
Examples: Does Classkick send emails to students? Discovery Education? etc. We need to know their email addresses in the form.
