Texas Rural Educators Association (TREA)
TxSP will be one of the vendors and sponsors for the TREA Conference this summer, June 21-23, at the DFW Marriott Hotel & Golf Club in Ft. Worth, TX. We will be presenting a workshop on Threat Inquiry that dives into the why, who, when, and how to proceed if a student threatens to harm another or the campus. All protocols/processes and documentation are based on research-based best practices. Come and join us!

Campus Operational & District Operational
Campus Operational:
- A new resource was added to Abuse Reporting for consideration whether to report a minor sexually active student to child protective services. Districts will want to review all of TxSP and TEA documents to ensure all staff is trained in reporting and understand the law and documentation required.
- A new file cabinet drawer was created under Activities to address the handling of animals on campus. This is another area to ensure that campuses are in compliance to reduce liability due to safety and health issues.
- The protocol for visitor check-in procedures was updated under the Safety section in regards to considering taking up driver licenses of visitors for campus visitation if a district wants to use this practice.
District Operational:
- A new file cabinet was created titled Class Size Requirements that includes a protocol and a letter required to send out when class sizes are over the required numbers.
Personnel
- A new filing cabinet has been added to address a progressive process and documentation when moving school staff to potential non-renewal or termination. There are four filing drawers with an overview and sample directives, reprimands, and miscellaneous behavior letters. The retention guidelines for letters have been updated as well.
- Two letters were added to the filing cabinet, Performance Appraisals, under the teacher folder that address teacher performance concerns.
Counseling
- An updated resource, THSC 161.325 has been added to the Resource filing cabinet in the Suicide Ideation filing drawer.
- TxSP is monitoring several bills that will directly affect the professional school counselor in regards to time on non-counseling duties and mental health. Updates will be completed to the site when and if any of these bills are passed.
- TxSP is also currently working with a group of high school counselors to develop a transcript checklist that will ensure students graduating on time by monitoring the right pieces at least twice a year and developing a plan of action if a student is not going to graduate on time. This will be posted by August, 2019.
Training Section
- TxSP has posted a power point presentation with talking points for districts to use to train their administrators in progressive documentation when considering moving an employee toward non-renewal or termination.
- The goal is to gradually develop powerpoint presentations for this section that will accompany and prepare various staff members to look at overviews, protocols, and documentation.
