Coker Cubs Weekly News
Coker Mission--Every Child, Every Day
We support and foster a positive community of successful, life-long learners and leaders by meeting the needs of every individual while challenging each one to reach full potential.
Arrival & Dismissal Duty
Welcome back to everyone. I hope you had a great summer break and took some time to have fun. I will continue to provide updates this year in the weekly electronic bulletin. Bulletins will also be archived on the Staff Shared drive. There will be repeats from the few years, but hopefully you will find the reminders helpful. As always, if you think of anything that will benefit other staff members, please let me know and I will include that information as well.
Leadership Quote--August
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
Caught Being a Leader
Thank you to all of the staff members who provided us with the beginning of the year training sessions. It is not an easy thing to present to a crowd, but these ladies never skipped a beat! We hope you learned something new. Shout out to Karmen, Andrea, Karen, Lupe, Adriene, Marcela, Ginny, Cindy, Regina, Kendall, Emily, Barbara, Terri, Victoria, Alicia, Rosaura, Sara, and Stephanie!
Leader in Me Implementation
The first eight weeks of school are important. They are the perfect time to set expectations, create positive relationships, and establish a culture of leadership. By taking this time, students will feel a sense of belonging and acceptance.
The Leader in Me is a journey, not a race. Introduce the 7 Habits. Display leadership quote. Introduce the 7 Habits of Happy Kids book. Guide students through the Foundation section of the Leader in Me Activity Guide.

Five Keys to Motivating Struggling Learners
Motivating struggling learners is a challenge, one that seems to grow over time. The first key to motivating a struggling learner is to build a positive relationship with each student. The old saying “Students don’t care what you know until they know you care” is true.

Employee's Children
Employees should not bring their children to campus during work times when the employee is expected to perform work duties and when their children may be on some other school calendar and are not expected to be at school.
If there are no classroom students present and the employee’s children are helping set up or take down a classroom during a “work day” at the beginning or at the end of the school year, this is permissible. However, if the employee’s children are out of school or day care, but the employee is scheduled to be at work instructing students or attending “staff development”, then the employee is expected to make arrangements for childcare and should not have their children attend work with them.
The KIN program will offer a discounted price of $100/month for teachers at Coker Elementary whose children attend Coker. Please see the attachment for further details.

Corporate Relocation
In creating, updating and maintaining your school web pages, you must consider:
- Your audiences
- The questions your audiences need answered
- That your web pages are a reflection of you, your students, your staff and your campus.
Therefore, a visitor’s first impression must reflect your dedication, education and capabilities. The Communications Department, will now be working with the Executive Directors for School Administration to examine the campus web pages. This will be done with the sole intent of helping administrators maintain web pages that will be a positive reflection on the campus. There will be no rating systems, merely a rubric provided to the principal that will indicate if there are any problem areas. The expectation is that these problems be addressed immediately.
The former Teacher Web content will no longer be available as of July 1, 2015. Alternative Options include:
Any others (Wikispaces, Weebly…) will be allowed but not necessarily supported by Tech Services staff (no plugin installations, training or troubleshooting help).
