Principal's Message
Good afternoon Barbieri Families,
At Barbieri we have lots of fun and exciting events going on! Yesterday, the grade 4 team enjoyed a presentation about Anne Frank sponsored by our wonderful Barbieri PTO. This week part of the grade 4 team enjoyed a field trip to the Ecotarium. The rest of the team will go in April. This week the grade 2 team enjoyed an Animal Adaptation presentation. Next week the grade 5 team will visit the Ecotarium and grade 3 will enjoy a Power Squad presentation in our auditorium! Lastly, grade 1 has already scheduled an in-school ocean animal presentation for June. Lots of fun!!! Kindergarten and Grade 1 teams have submitted out of school field trip proposals as well so information is forthcoming. We want to ensure all grade levels enjoy in-school field trip experiences as well as out of school field trips. A HUGE thank you goes to our PTO creative arts committee for supporting these experiences for our students!
Please consider making a donation if you are able to for our Dual Language Scholarship. Our Barbieri PTO oversees a Dual Language Scholarship award that is granted to a Framingham High School Senior. This senior is a Barbieri, Walsh and FHS dual language graduating student. Last year we were able to award TWO $500 scholarship awards. All applications are due on March 15th. Please view the flyer below for more information.
Disfruten el fin de semana,
Maria
Barbieri Drama Club Presents: HONK! 🦆
El Club de Teatro de Barbieri Presenta: HONK!
Barbieri Drama Club presents HONK! JR. a delightful re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic The Ugly Duckling. After being ridiculed by his father DRAKE, his family, and his neighbors because of his odd, gawky looks, UGLY leaves the barnyard in search of happiness, only to be pursued by a hungry CAT. Lonely and afraid, Ugly must find his way home, with only his loving mother IDA searching for him. On his journey, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not such a bad thing to be.

Sage Services Program Description
All children possess gifts and talents. Some children may be academically advanced, others may be musically inclined, while still others may excel in sports. The Framingham Public Schools defines giftedness as a combination of high academic ability, abstract thinking preference, and a divergent learning style. Since the goal is for every student to maximize his/her learning potential, it becomes necessary for children who possess special needs associated with giftedness to receive modifications in the teaching/learning environment. These modifications may be handled in the classroom or through a pull-out service, dependent upon individual need. Therefore, services of the Sage Department are two-fold: an integration component and a pull-out component.
The pullout component is developed in a prescriptive sense to address and support the needs of identified students. In this setting, Sage provides a differentiated program of work that is based on abstract and divergent thinking skills, independent investigation and the 16 Habits of Mind developed by Dr. Art Costa and Dr. Bena Kallick. The social-emotional and self-advocacy needs which impact motivation and learning are also an important component of these services. Sage classes are part of the core academic program essential for proper growth and development.
The integration component not only provides for the modifications necessary for the individual needs of identified students, it also provides opportunities for thinking skill development for all students. The Sage staff serves as a resource for classroom teachers through collaboration and the provision of materials, lessons, and learning centers/projects based on the integration of higher order thinking skills into the grade level content.

Dr. Lauren Foley, Bilingual Literacy Coach
Ms. Luz Vallejo-Spillane, Bilingual Reading Teacher, Grades K-2
Ms. Margaret Fawley, Bilingual Reading Teacher, Grades 3-5
Hi everyone,
Read Across America falls on March 2nd. However, here at Barbieri, we are celebrating reading throughout the whole month of March!
As a school, we will see if we can get to 50,000 minutes of reading this month!
Since the character trait of the month is confidence, we will work on building confident readers! To celebrate this, our spirit day on March 31st will be to dress to impress and strut with your favorite book!
As a class, please keep track of the amount of time you are reading (read aloud, independent reading, etc.). Keep track on your reading thermometer! Every week, the minutes across the school will be tallied for a sum of the week.
At home, please tally your minutes on your calendar. Prizes will be given out to classrooms and individuals who are reading the most!

🦷😬 Dental Cleanings!
Nurse Luke and Rebecca Salguero, Wraparound Coordinator, have been working to ensure that all families of the 70 students receiving cleanings this week (2/27-3/3) are aware so students are in school. Students will be called down to Nurse Luke's office for cleanings. We will work around field trips, recess and lunches. We will do our best to also work around specials schedules but that is not guaranteed. All 70 students families received a written letter home and phone calls to inform them. Thank you all for your work in making this possible!
UPDATE: Two days need to be rescheduled as the dentist was not able to come to Barbieri to complete cleanings. We will update everyone once we know when those cleanings will be.
