Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,

Just a reminder that Semester 1 ends on Friday, January 20th. Some helpful hints to help your child be as successful as possible as the first semester comes to an end:

  • Check PowerSchool to determine if they have any missing assignments

  • If your child has missed school, please have your child follow up with their teacher to make a plan for missing assignments

  • Remind your child to utilize RISE to check in with their teachers

Tissues Please!

Cold and Flu season is here if you could please donate any boxes of tissues it would be greatly appreciated! Please have your student drop off tissues with their crew teachers or the main office to be distributed around the school.

8th Grade Families: 8th Grade Student Yearbook Recognitions Due 02/09!

8th Grade Student Yearbook Recognitions

  • Due by Thursday, February 9th, 2023

  • Previously known as 8th Grade Dedications

  • Families can write a brief message and include picture(s) (of student at any age) to recognize the accomplishments of their 8th grade student

  • Cost is $15

  • New this year, families can design their own 1/8 page recognition ad! They will be created, submitted, and paid for all on the Jostens website at the following link:

There is an early pre-order deadline of Tuesday, February 28th order ASAP through the Jostens website! Only limited extras are available at the end of the year so make sure to order ahead of time!

Student Absence Reporting

Families should report their middle school student's absence from school by calling the SMS main office at 207-730-4800 or by email at A reason for the absence must be stated, otherwise SMS office staff will reach out to determine the reason for the absence.

Excusable reasons for an absence:

  • illness
  • appointment
  • religious holiday
  • family emergency
  • planned absence

For Planned Absences (a day out of school which is not illness or medical appointment related), families should fill out the Scarborough Middle School Planned Absence form, which is found here.
