Arrival & Dismissal
Parents of Kindergarten students are able to walk their child to their classroom the first week of school, if you choose. After that, Kindergarten students will be greeted at the door by a staff member to ensure they get to their classroom safely.
For new students in other grade levels, parents are welcome to walk your child(ren) to their class on the first day of school as well.
All returning students will follow the same routine as last year. Students should enter the building when they arrive at school between 8:20 – 8:35. Attendance is taken at 8:40. Students should be in class and ready to learn by 8:40 or they will be marked tardy.
Students should not arrive on school property until 8:20 as there is no supervision.
Students may enter through the front or back doors until 8:40am and will be greeted by a Dunwiddie staff member. After 8:40, they need to enter through the front entrance and sign in at the office.
Dismissal is at 3:30pm daily. Please make sure your child's teacher knows how he/she will get home each day. If your child will be picked up by a parent (or family member/friend), please indicate if they will be picked up in back or front of school.
Drop off/Pick up and Parent Parking – Due to the high volume of vehicles coming and going during drop-off and pick-up times, a bit of traffic and congestion is inevitable. Student safety is always our primary concern throughout the school day.
We would like to offer the following suggestions to maximize safety and efficiency for all:
- The drive through lane in front of school is for drop and go only. If you would like to get out to say good-bye, or if your child needs assistance with a car seat, etc., please park in the lot.
- Cars are expected to pull all the way to the end of the drive through to avoid long lines that extend into Lincoln Ave.
- Please have children exit the car along the sidewalk, and not in the drive through if at all possible
Lunch Periods
The lunch procedures will be very similar to last year. Classes will sit together in the lunchroom to keep our students in their cohort as much as possible indoors. We have arranged our schedule so that each grade level has their own lunch and recess.

Cleaning and COVID Protocols
On August 16, 2021, the Port Washington-Saukville Board of Education approved the COVID-19 Response Team’s recommended safety protocols and mitigation strategies for the start of the 2021-22 school year, as follows:
- All children and adults should wear masks indoors. This includes in school buildings and at all school-sponsored activities, including athletics held indoors. At this time, the District continues to support everyone in making their own family decisions regarding wearing a mask.
- All children and adults must wear masks on school buses and school transportation, per federal guidelines.
- Isolation protocols will remain the same for individuals who are symptomatic or have a positive COVID-19 test, resulting in a need to isolate through 10 days from symptom onset or positive test date (whichever comes first).
- As with masking, we support families in making their own decisions regarding the need to quarantine for close contact with a positive individual at this time. Based on present data, children or adults exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual should quarantine, except in cases where one of the following conditions apply:
- You are identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 positive individual, have worn a mask when in contact with this person, and you are symptom-free.
- You are identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 positive individual while participating in outdoor activities/sports with or without a mask, and you are symptom-free.
- You are identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 positive individual, are fully vaccinated (it has been over 14 days since you received the second vaccination), and you are symptom-free.
- The Board of Education grants the COVID-19 Response Team, in consultation with the Board Executive Committee, the authority to pivot from the current recommendations, as needed during the 2021-22 school year, to assure the health and safety of all children and adults, based on the following criteria
- If site-positive cases increase to 5% of the staff/student population, masking will be moved from “should” to “must” mask for a minimum of 20 calendar days and until the site-positive case rate drops below 5%.
- If site-positive cases increase to 10% of the staff/student population, quarantine will be moved from “should” to “must” quarantine, and quarantine would be required to follow the current CDC recommendations. In addition, the administration will look at adjusting and/or adding additional mitigation measures (including, but not limited to: social distancing adjustments, sanitation protocols, ventilation, and remote learning options).
- Additional findings provided to districts by the CDC, DHS, Washington Ozaukee Public Health, DPI, from internal trends and/or data, or other recognized state and federal authorities which would necessitate the adjustment of the current mitigation measures.
- All adjustments made must fall within the defined parameters/guidelines approved by DPI for public schools.
DES will also maintain many of the mitigation and sanitizing protocols that we had in place last year. Those include but are not limited to:
- High touch surfaces will be cleaned frequently
- Students and staff will wash hands and/or sanitize frequently throughout the day and when moving between spaces within the building
- Each grade level will have their own lunch and recess time which allows students to spread out at lunch tables and eat with students in their class/cohort.
- A "soft start" in the morning, between 8:20 a.m.- 8:40 a.m., eliminates congestion in the hallways and allows students to arrive at anytime during that 20 minute window.
- When indoors, we will keep students in their class cohort as much as possible
- DES has an updated air filtration system that continuously pull in outdoor, fresh air on a year round basis. We have also upgraded to higher end Merv rated filters.
- Sharing of supplies will be limited as much as possible
- If students exhibit multiple symptoms of COVID-19, according to the symptom checklist, please keep them home and contact our office. Siblings that are feeling well should attend school.
- Students that are required to isolate for 10 days due to COVID-19 illness and/or a positive COVID-19 test will be expected to continue learning when they are feeling well enough to do so. A plan will be worked out between the classroom teacher, guardian and principal for extended absences.
