Message from Mrs. Fassbender
We hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and break with your families! The staff are now busy starting our mid-year assessments as we finish the first semester. Students will be taking the following assessments:
- Grade 4k - PALS 4K Literacy Screening (letter name & letter sounds recognition)
- Grades K-2 - Walpole Phonics screener and i-Ready Reading
- Grade 2 - i-Ready Math
New this winter we will be giving all students in grades K-2 a math fact fluency assessment. We will be using the information from the assessments in combination with classroom observations to help complete report cards that will be sent home on Friday, January 12.
As the weather has changed, I also encourage families to send an extra change of clothes at school for changing in case their clothes get wet during the winter recess. In addition, we ask that you label these items as it is very challenging to determine whose coats/hats/mittens are whose when many of these items are the same.
We are also asking all families that use the parent loop to drop off and pick up children to please stay in their car and have staff help your child get in or out if needed. This will help with the safety of all as the roads become icy.
Please know that I am here for your child, this staff, and this school. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call or email me. Together we will make this an incredible year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amy Fassbender

Primary School Families
We implemented our second Primary School Family Gathering on November 20. During this gathering, students shared something that they enjoy doing. Then they watched a video on what is pride and then completed a group drawing on what they are proud of.
Stuff the Turkey
Thank you to all the families that donated items to Stuff the Turkey and for the Coat Drive! We were able to fill up several bins. These items were delivered to Reach Out Lodi prior to Thanksgiving.
Veteran's Day
We were honored to have Staff Sergeant Getgen, one of our kindergartener's dad, come in to talk to the kindergarten classes about being in the Army and what Veteran's Day means. He was also gracious enough to let the kiddos try everything on. It was a wonderful experience for ALL!!
Virtual Day - What will this look like?
With winter weather coming, we want to be prepared in the event that the district would call for a Virtual Day. Below is what you can expect for your child.
- Grade 4k - Students will receive a bag with a few learning activities that they will be able to complete with families. The students will bring back their work the next day.
- Grade K-2 - Students would be provided a school ipad/chrome book with a letter from their teacher explaining the schedule for the day. We encourage students to attend a google meet with their classroom teacher where they will participate in a morning meeting. In addition, students would be provided with a bag of a few learning activities (written and on the ipad/chromebook) that they should be able to complete independently. The students will bring back their work and the ipad the next day.
- Students in grades 4k-2 can attend an optional read aloud by Ms. Good and the reading specialist.
Staff will be taking attendance during the google meet. But if your child is not able to attend this, completing the independent activities (written and on the ipad/chromebook) will count as your child present for that Virtual Day.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Winter Playground Guidelines
Here are the winter playground guidelines we share with students and we wanted you to have them as well.
- Students need to put on hats, mittens, boots, snow pants, and jackets before heading outside.
Students need to have boots and snow pants to be in the snow, go sledding on the hill and the snow mounds.
Students without snow pants and boots need to stay on the blacktop.
No throwing snow.
No eating snow.

Message from Mrs. Bilkey - School Counselor
Tis the season of winter gear and busy schedules. Here at school we work hard to encourage independence throughout the year, it’s exceptionally important this time of year as kids are trying to get bundled up in all of the cold weather gear multiple times a day. When kids get stuck or have a hard time we always encourage them to give it a try first. Independence is something we can promote in our kids throughout every day at school and at home. At home we as parents often get into such a groove of doing all of the things for our kids because it's easier and faster. It’s easy to find ourselves inadvertently taking away valuable learning opportunities and chances for our kids to develop independence and confidence. When our kids develop independence in any task it helps build their confidence. Confidence is an extremely valuable skill for people to have. Confidence often leads to greater happiness and life satisfaction.
You can help your K-2 kids develop independence and confidence at home by having them:
- put their winter gear on by themselves
- pick out their own clothes and dress themselves
- learn to tie their shoes
- pick up their own toys
- help set the table for dinner
- clear dishes from the table after dinner
- help take care of pets
- bring dirty clothes to the laundry room
- fold clothes
- make/pack their own lunch
- be in charge of emptying their backpack and packing it back up
- carrying their own backpacks and other belongings
- help wash dishes or load/unload the dishwasher
- help cook dinner
Message from Ms. Good - Library
Hello from Lodi Primary School Library!
This month . . .
- We read nonfiction animal books and talked about nonfiction features, like a table of contents and glossary.
- We practiced using shelf markers for checkouts.
- We read and learned about: Veterans Day and Indigenous Heritage Month.
- Miss Jen put out many new books for everyone to enjoy and check out.
- We also reviewed and discussed emergency procedures when in the library.
The kids have checked out and read many books so far this year. I hope to see their continued enthusiasm!
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions at goodamy@lodischoolswi.org. Happy reading!

The holidays are a time for everyone to keep the habit of their regular routines as much as reasonably possible. This will help manage everyone’s mood, health, and stress to enjoy the season.
Here are 4 tips to help your family with ideas for a healthy lifestyle during the upcoming holiday season.
Try to keep your normal meal times. Provide healthy food options as much as you can, it is also OK to have that occasional sugar cookie or piece of pie.
Choose your media time wisely. Value reconnecting and building relationships. Parents, it helps if you set a good example for your children.
Get plenty of sleep
preschool (3–5 years): 10–13 hours, including naps
school-age (6–13 years): 9–12 hours
60 mins of exercise daily. Link for more information here
Most important of all, enjoy the holidays for what they are- time to enjoy your family. Find ways to spend time together, whether it's on a sled outdoors or over a board game or good picture book.
Do you have questions about when your child can return to school after having a fever or strep throat? Check out this document: When to keep your child home from school.
As we head into the winter season people are indoors more often resulting in an increase in RSV, Flu and COVID. Reminder from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services: Click here for the full news release
“When planning holiday celebrations, remember that respiratory viruses spread more easily when people are gathered indoors. If you are feeling sick, get tested. Talk to a doctor about getting tested for COVID-19, influenza, RSV, or other respiratory viruses. Wisconsinites can still order free at-home COVID-19 tests from the federal government. If you are sick, stay home. Especially if you test positive or have symptoms of COVID-19, flu, or other illnesses. This helps protect others, especially those who are most vulnerable.”Taher
