That's a Wrap!

We have already wrapped up the first trimester of school. Today marks the end of the first marking period for the elementary school year and a new trimester begins on Monday.

Teachers are working on report cards for each student and those documents will be available for parents to view on Wednesday, December 12th in Infinite Campus. You will need to log in to IC using your parent login. If you are having trouble logging in to your Infinite Campus account, please contact Tanya Perez and she can help you troubleshoot.

Enrollment Period Open December 1st

The School District of Waukesha's open enrollment period is open beginning tomorrow. The open enrollment process is for any family who lives outside of our attendance area and would like to attend Hillcrest next year. Students who are currently attending Hillcrest do not need to complete this process for K-5th grade but younger siblings who are not currently attending do need to complete process. ALL potential 4K students for the 2019-2020 school year, from inside and outside of our attendance area, must register during this enrollment period; before Friday, January 11th at 4:30PM.

Please see the attached packet from the district outlining the process and our offerings. Families can also come to the enrollment event tomorrow, December 1st, between 10:00AM-1:00PM at North High School!

School Choice

The School Choice/Inter-District Transfer application period will open on December 1, 2018, at 8:00 am and will run through 4:30 pm on January 11, 2019. If you are considering attending a school within the district that is not your neighborhood school, you must complete a school choice application. The application can be found online at https://sdw.waukesha.k12.wi.us/Page/114. Email confirmations that we received the application will be made upon submission of the electronic application. Per SDW Board Policy ag6152, the School District of Waukesha may decline an intra-district transfer until all financial obligations have been met. If your child has any outstanding fees, please have them paid in full by January 11th.

Secondary notifications of approval/denial will be mailed home on or around January 17, 2019. If your student is approved, the letter of commitment will need to be signed and returned to the Enrollment Office by January 28th.

Elementary notifications of approval/denial will be mailed home on or around March 8, 2019. If your student is approved, you will need to sign a letter of commitment by the date listed in the letter to hold

your child’s seat

El período de solicitud para la Elección de Escuela/Transferencia Dentro del Distrito comenzará el 1⁰ de diciembre de 2018, a las 8:00 am y terminará el 11 de enero de 2019 a las 4:30 pm. Si está considerando asistir a una escuela dentro del distrito que no es la escuela de su vecindario, debe completar la solicitud de elección de escuela. Food Drive Next Week!

Next week, we will have an all school food drive. We are connecting this to our fourth and fifth grader’s concert on December 11th. The theme of the concert is “This Big, Beautiful World.” We will collect non-perishable food items during the week of Dec. 3rd through the 7th. We have a list of suggested food items, but you can bring any items, or also bring a monetary donation. Here are the suggested food items:

December 3rd: Macaroni and Cheese

December 4th: Cereal or any breakfast item (pancake mix, waffle mix, etc.)

December 5th: Canned fruit

December 6th: Beans: refried, baked, or chili

December 7th: Your favorite!

We are also inviting guests to bring a canned item or monetary donation to the concert on Dec. 11th, if they wish. All of the items will be picked up by the Waukesha Food Pantry on Dec. 12th.

We are giving you this list in advance so that you can begin collecting items for our December food drive. Thank you in advance for your participation, and for caring for those in need in our community!

Choir Visits the Caring Place and Performs at the Brookfield Tree Lighting

The Choir will be performing at the Caring Place in December. If your child is in the 4th/5th grade choir, please click on this LINK for more information.

The 4th and 5th grade Hillcrest Choir will be performing at the Brookfield Tree Lighting, held at the Corners of Brookfield, on Wednesday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to celebrate the season with us!

Vision Screening is coming to Hillcrest!

On December 10, 2018, volunteers from the Waukesha Lion’s Club will be coming to Hillcrest to screen students in 4K, 2nd, 4th grade and referrals for vision problems from classroom teachers. Please encourage your child to wear his/her glasses/contacts on the screening day. All screeners have been certified by Prevent Blindness and are Lion’s Club Members. They will be using new equipment called Plus Optix that is able to detect possible problems within the eye. Screening takes less than 1 minute per child and is done by having the child look into a box that resembles a camera from a few feet away. Most children report that it is much like having a picture taken. You will receive information about your child’s results in the event your child failed the screening. Please call the school health room if you have any questions or concerns.

4th and 5th Grade Music Concert

Our annual fourth and fifth grade concert which will be held in the Hillcrest Gym on Tuesday December 11th at 6:30 p.m. All are invited, whether or not you have a student at Hillcrest! The title of our concert is “This Big Beautiful World” The dress rehearsal will be earlier in the day at 9:15 a.m. Please see the attached letter for morning information.

PTO's Holiday Staff Gift Program

If you are thinking of getting a gift for a teacher or staff member this holiday season look no further; Hillcrest PTO has a program to help: Hillcrest's Holiday Staff Gift Program.

The staff gift program allows you to give money towards purchasing gift cards for any staff member at any amount. Then the money is combined to purchase larger amount gift card through our scrip program for the staff members.

Want to ski or snowboard this year? Join the club!

Whether you’ve skied before or not, now is your chance to hit the slopes. This is a Ski & Snowboard Club open to all Hillcrest students and alumni (K-12) and their families and friends. Join and you’ll ski or snowboard at Little Switzerland four times this winter, plus you can take lessons and rent equipment if needed, all at a huge discounted rate. See attachment for details! Last year we have over 25 people and they all have a blast, from ages 3 to 63!

Start Time for 4K-5th Grade- 8:40AM - line up bell rings at 8:35AM

End Time for 4K - 11:25AM

End Time for 5K-5th Grade - 3:40PM

End Time for Early Release Days for 5K-5th Grade -1:40PM

Playground supervision begins at 8:20. Please do not drop your child off until our recess supervisors are on the playground.

*Please note - our clocks often run up to 5 minutes early. We consistently reset them but the time continues creep forward!

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
