Mustang Message

A Principal's Perspective

This weekend is the 14th annual Buddy Walk to celebrate and support the Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley. https://www.ds-stride.org/dsabvbuddywalk/ The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. Through this event awareness, acceptance and inclusion of people with down syndrome is promoted.

I like to include clips in my Mustang Message that can teach us. I hope that you take time to view both of these clips because not only will they teach us, but they will touch our hearts as well. Take a look at the two clips below of Blake. I couldn't decide which clip was better because they both told Blake's story so well. So, I wanted to share both with you. Blake is the youngest entrepreneur in Sanger, Tx. Blake is also the first business owner in Texas with down syndrome. Blake as stated in the clip, "defines the spirit of Texas."

How is Blake successful? He has an undying community of support. With that community of high expectations for Blake, the sky is the limit! Blake defies the odds as he shares his joy, hugs, and his beautiful smile with his customers. Blake indeed is changing the hearts and minds of people in Sanger, TX.

How do we come together as a GP community to defy the odds for our students? Do we have high expectations and a community of support for each of our students? Do we have that undying belief that the sky is the limit for each of our 775 students? What will define our GP spirit where we collectively defy the odds?

Jennie Fortner shared her precious story of Gage coming into this world. She posted her story on Facebook. She is going to email it to GP as well. Her story and Blake's story can teach us, yes, but will touch your heart too!

Be Innovative - Design the possibilities!
