Welcome to Kindergarten

Dear parents and students welcome back to school! The Kindergarten team is excited for a wonderful 2018-2019 school year full of learning and adventure. We just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit of what to except in the month of September. Below you will find some information about your teacher with their email address, if you would be interested in donating snack(non-perishable-goldfish, pretzels, fruit snacks ect.) for your child's class please contact the teacher. We are very excited about this school year and giving your child the best experience in Kindergarten they could imagine.

Ms. Cowling

My name is Heather Cowling, I have been teaching at Chimborazo Elementary School for 17 years. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. My dad, mom, and sister now live in Florida. My favorite subject is math, my favorite book is The Giving Tree. My hobbies include running, working out (Seal Team), music, sports, and reading. I love the beach and the mountains. Ms. Davis

Greetings family,

It is my pleasure and an honor to teach Kindergarten. My name is Anita Davis, and I love, love, love my career! This is my 19th year of teaching and learning at Chimborazo and it's going to be my best year yet. Email: astevens@rvaschools.net

Ms. Turner

Hi! My name is Lindsey Turner and this will be my second year teaching at Chimborazo. I am from Richmond and went to Richmond City Public Schools growing up. My parents are still in Richmond as ministers and my sister is in her senior year at JMU. I love to teach reading and incorporate singing and dancing into my classroom. My hobbies include dancing, reading, drinking coffee with friends, and going to church! I am so excited to start a new school year and begin a new adventure with this class! Ms. Drake

Please allow me to introduce myself and tell you how excited I am to have your child in my class. My name is Crystal Drake. I was raised in Gloucester, Virginia. I graduated from VCU in 2011 with my Masters in Teaching. Outside of school, I enjoy tutoring and spending time with my 3 pets! I love skydiving and Chipotle. I am also learning to surf! What we are learning?

For the first month of school we will mostly be learning about school and practicing with routines and procedures, but we will start getting into the following topics!

Math (SOL Focus: K.8, K.1ab, K.2ab): In math we will begin by focusing on using a calendar, talking about days and months, counting and writing numbers 0-20, and comparing numbers.

Reading (SOL Focus: K.1, K.3, K.4, K.5, K.7, K.11, K.12): In reading we will begin by focusing on learning all the letters of the alphabet, printing the alphabet (lowercase and uppercase), printing first and last names, recognizing rhyming words, drawing and labeling pictures, and using oral language and listening skills.

Science (SOL Focus: K.2): In Science we will begin by exploring our five senses and using sensory words to describe the world around us.

Social Studies (SOL Focus: K.10): In Social Studies we will spend the first part of the year focusing on learning about citizenship in the classroom. We will practice taking responsibility, following rules, being honest and kind in the classroom.
