Speech and Debate
The Hood River Valley High School Speech and Debate Team is very excited to once again host our District Speech and Debate Tournament.
When? Saturday, April 2nd (8:30-4:00)
Where? Hood River Valley High School
What? Volunteer for the day (or half the day) as a judge for the tournament
If you haven't done this before, don't worry, our students appreciate community judges and that is what makes a District tournament unique.
Hood River will be joined by students from Pine Eagle school in Halfway, Hermiston High School, Pendleton High School and Monument, Oregon.
We will offer judges training the morning of the tournament and share judging tips and information prior to the event. We will also feed you during the day.
Please let me know now if you are interested and available.
Thank you for considering and for supporting Speech and Debate,
DeLona Campos-Davis

A+ Peer Tutoring
We have a new space in the library dedicated to tutoring so students can get help in many different subjects. Look for the bright yellow wall!!
National Honor Society Members will be providing peer tutoring to HRVHS students in the library throughout the day and afterschool. Students can request a peer tutor by clicking on A+ Peer Tutoring on the HRVHS Website under site shortcuts. After the request is made the student will be contacted to set up a tutor. We hope you find this a valuable resource for your student!

Senior All Night Party…Parent Volunteers Needed…Pictures Needed:
Parent Volunteers Needed:
Senior parents, we need your help to make the Graduation All Night Party at the Elks a success for our students. We need a lot of volunteers to make the night a fun and lasting memory for our kids. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 7, 5 PM, in Room A07 at HRV. If you are interested in volunteering and/or getting on our e-mail list, please contact Susan Sorensen at sq@gorge.net or Lori Duffy at loriduffy5@gmail.com. Spoiler alert: we have a car to give away!
Photos Needed:
We need photos of seniors to add to othememory wall at the graduation party. It is especially fun if you have any photos of groups as they grew up. Please send in color copies of your photos, (we can’t be responsible for originals and pictures will not be returned). Photos can be dropped off to Nan Noteboom at HRV, or emailed to Eileen Reffett at eileen.reffett@hoodriver.k12.or.us

Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District and Hood River Valley Residents Committee
The Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District and Hood River Valley Residents Committee are considering creating a new community park at the corner of Fairview and Belmont Drive. This 20-acre site has the potential to be a park with a diverse mix of features and uses. It's up to the Hood River community to determine what it will look like. The planning committee is in the process of seeking community input and would like to know what you want to see in a new park! The planning committee is asking the community at large to take a survey to help shape the future of this potential space. Please take this opportunity to share your thoughts on this important topic!
Please follow the link to the survey: Westside Community Park survey

Central Oregon Community College: March 29th – 11:30am – 12:30pm
Financial Aid Award Letters
Many parents and students want to know how much they are getting for their financial aid after they have filed their FAFSA. Financial Aid Award Letters usually are sent to the student towards the end of March and in April from the colleges of their choice. “How do you know the award is the best you can get from the school?” The answer is simple. You have to ASK the college’s financial aid department. If you need help understanding what the letters are offering your students, call Lisa Roberts in SUMMIT. We have a comparison chart that may help you. 541-387-5034 x 3.
Incomplete FAFSA
Several seniors still need to complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid). For most students, time has not run out. Please have your student come to SUMMIT to schedule an appointment. An ASPIRE volunteer or a SUMMIT staff will be glad to make sure this application is completed. For those students that have filled out their FAFSA already, remember to update the FAFSA as soon as their 2015 taxes and their parent’s 2015 taxes are complete. If you need help, please see Lisa Roberts in SUMMIT.
