Principal's Message
Thank you so much for your support, encouragement and patience during the first month of school. Back-to-School Night was a huge success! I would like to remind you that it is essential that each family reads all communication sent by the school. These newsletters, Bright Arrows, and teacher communications are very important.
We are continuing to have Grab and Go lunches daily at Green. If you haven't done so already please fill out the Online Meal Application Form. While I know school lunch is currently free to all children under 18 years of age, the districts overall free and reduced percentage has an impact on school funding- and more funding means more money is available for our students' education.
PTA is working hard to bring many exciting things for our students. In October, we have the Reflections contest and Red Ribbon Week. PTA will also be hosting a Pumpkin Decorating Contest in place of the Fall Festival. If you have not joined the PTA, it is not too late. Please see the QR code at the bottom of the newsletter to join. We would like to see 100% of our families join. With your donations, PTA can continue to provide support for many programs at our school. Also, they provide updates around our campus, such as a new water fountain/ water bottle refill station that was just installed this last week in our lunch area!
This year we will have a new fundraiser, Move-a-thon, where all donations will go directly to the classroom to support learning. More information will be out soon for this event.
We are still looking for two volunteers for School Site Council to serve as alternate members. If you are interested joining, please email tjohnson@fusdk12.net.
Please feel free to reach out to me at anytime if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to me that we work together to help your child do their best.
Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson

Counselor's Corner with Ms. Huang
Welcome to our October mindfulness tip! This month, I'd like to share how mindfulness could lead your family toward better communication. Oftentimes, communication gets challenging when we're not actively listening to each other. Our minds are constantly running with a million thoughts every minute. If we turn down the volume of those thoughts and practice "mindful listening", we can be more present for others. Mindful listening takes time and effort, really focusing on the other person without judgment or criticism. How could I also teach this to my children? By modeling behavior. Children learn through observing and practicing. As you are practicing this, you are also encouraging others to listen with intent and empathy. Start by having a conversation with your child/family about their day. Be present, try to understand their experience. And vice versa, share how your day went!
You'd be surprised how mindfulness can improve relationships and strengthen those intimate family connections!
Stay tuned,
Ms. Huang
