"The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life..... I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father. "

Gospel Reading (John 6:60-69)

Many of Jesus' disciples who were listening said,
"This saying is hard; who can accept it?"
Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this,
he said to them, "Does this shock you?
What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending
to where he was before?
It is the spirit that gives life,
while the flesh is of no avail.
The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.
But there are some of you who do not believe."
Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe
and the one who would betray him.
And he said,
"For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me
unless it is granted him by my Father."

As a result of this,
many of his disciples returned to their former way of life
and no longer accompanied him.
Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
We have come to believe
and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."

Verses to reflect on . . . .

"The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life..... I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father. "

Lord, your words are Spirit and life. Give me the gift of courage to listen and respond to your Word so that I can grow in my faith, grow in my loyalty, and grow in my commitment to you as the Holy One of God, my Lord and Savior.

What a great first day of school! Thank you, OLM Family! Here are some pictures capturing the day's fun and excitement!

We had wonderful first day of school. Seeing everyone again after our long (or was it?) summer break was definitely fun and exciting. The smiles and pleasantries filled the air as we all welcomed each other.

The day started with a prayer led by the Student Council president Leilani Blecha and Vice President Krista Mananquil. After the morning announcements, Father Boie gave all of us the Beginning of the School Year blessings.

Parents then headed to the hall for coffee and donuts courtesy. Present were parent representatives / volunteers helping us to share information / recruit volunteers for this school year. Mrs. Zumbado, P.E. teacher, along with her volunteers, was present to sell P.E. uniforms to parents. Special shout out goes to all parents who came and volunteered to help out last Monday!

Here's to a great school year!

To everyone, thank you for such a great opening of the school year.

New Emergency Communication System

We are happy to let you know that another layer to ensure safety of our school community has just been put into place at OLM. We now have a new emergency communication system provided by Devine Protection. More information about our new systems are as follows:

"Devine Protection provides unprecedented communication abilities for schools facing a myriad of threats and incidents, which otherwise make emergency communications a daunting task. Devine Protection enables schools to alert site personnel immediately about emergencies and incidents, then establish and sustain communications with informative and precise details that are so crucial to incident management and response.

Devine Protection delivers a number of tools pivotal to success even before first responders arrive:

  •  Instantly alert faculty members to any emergency or incident on campus.

  •  Assist prompt and effective responses to emergencies or incidents

  •  Employ critical information including maps, defibrillator locations, and emergency plans

  •  Transforms phone to walkie-talkie, adding vital capabilities

  •  Operate a communication page for staff to relay vital information.

  •  Access key contacts.

  •  Call 911 with a single button push.

Devine Protection’s goal is to ensure a greater level of preparedness at your school and enhance the safety of staff and students alike. Our planning efforts are

extensive; using the tools and resources based on knowledge and experience that have repeatedly demonstrated an unmatched preparedness and responsiveness."

We tested the system during our Fire Drill yesterday and will continue to use it moving forward.

As always, everybody's safety is of utmost importance to us here at Our Lady of Mercy School. We continue to do our drills, revisit our plans to ensure that we are all prepared in cases of emergencies.
