5 Themes of Austin

The 5 themes of Geography are Location, Place, Region, Movement, and Human-Enviroment Interaction. Below are some Austin-based examples of these themes.
Location
Austin is located in the state of Texas in the southern part of the United States. The city is near the center of Texas and is located between San Antonio and Dallas. The coordinates of Austin are 30.2500° N, 97.7500° W. Austin is the capital of Texas.
Place
Austin, Texas is considered hill country. There are many hills with dry grass and many trees. Austin is also known for keeping it "weird." Keeping Austin "weird" is meant to say that they are supporting independent local businesses. Also music is a big part of Austin. Every year there is a music festival known as Austin City Limits. People all around the world come to see the amazing music.
Region
Austin is known as "hill country" because of the very hilly region, unlike many other Texas cities. In addition, Austin is a very hot and dry place with temperatures that can go over 100 degrees for a long period of time. The grass gets really dry because of the brutal weather.
Movement
Austin and the surrounding area have been in a drought for several years. The city relies on natural water resources. Austin area governments have been saving water by having people only water their lawns once a week. Water is a major resource that needs to be preserved in order for the environment to stay healthy and in good conditions. We are now in stage two of water restrictions.
Human-Enviroment Interaction
Austin is a major city that keeps growing and growing. In 2011 the population of Austin was 820,611 and probably has increased much more since then. 35% of the population is Hispanic and 48% White. Besides the Hispanic and White population, African Americans and Asians also are a significant part of the Austin population.
