In an effort to keep a safe environment for our children, we are requiring that ALL chaperones and/or parents/guardians over the age of 18 attending field trips be entered into our Raptor system at the school. This is the system that we use to check in visitors that enter our school. Raptor provides screening of individuals entering our school and helps us know who is in the building, so that we are better prepared for emergencies. Although field trips do not occur at the school, they are still school-sponsored functions and we want to continue to provide a safe environment for our students.

Another reminder to any adults over the age of 18 that are attending the field trips (as some field trips permit parents to attend, if not chaperoning) - our Raptor program was recently updated. If you have not been to school within the month of February 2020 to scan your ID, you are currently not in the system, as in previous months/years. You will need to come in to do so PRIOR TO the day of the field trip. The office will not be open until 8:00 AM and the buses will already be gone for these 2 field trips.

Preschool Visit

As part of their Community Helpers Unit, one of our own Signal Hill parents worked with our preschool program to learn about police officers! Thank you so much Sergeant Seiff and the PWC Police for your compassion and sharing with our youngest here at Signal Hill!

Preschool Opportunity

The Prince William County Public School Preschool Special Education Program has Integrated Preschool opportunities at Signal Hill Elementary. Our Integrated Program at Signal Hill Elementary will serve children ages three and four years old with developmental delays, along with their appropriate peer models. There will be six openings for children ages three and four years of age to serve as peer models during the 2020-21 school year. Children must be at least 36 months old by September 30, 2020 and live in the Signal Hill Elementary school attendance area.

Selection Process:

A playgroup will be scheduled for applicants. You and your child will be invited to come for an hour of play in a preschool classroom. Children must demonstrate age-appropriate language and social skills in order to qualify for the lottery selection. Parents of the children who are selected will be notified. Children who are not selected will be notified and placed on a waiting list.

When you and your child attend the play group, you must bring proof of residency (deed or lease) and 2 additional proofs (water bill, electric bill, driver’s license, etc.) and your child’s birth certificate.

Enrollment Process and Agreement:

Children who are selected for the Integrated program will need to be registered at Signal Hill Elementary. Registration forms will be completed at the parent orientation before school begins. What we did last week ...

This week we went for a quick walk in the woods. The kids learned to leave what you find, respect wildlife and to be considerate of others. After the walk, students made imprint sketches of things they found in the woods, such as leaves or twigs.
