This week at school . . . . .
Holy Rosary: Sometimes extraordinary challenges require extraordinary means. During the month of October we are encouraged to pray the rosary if we seek Mary’s intercession in asking for a favor. We celebrated another saint recently who did wonders to reinforce the ageless tradition of praying the rosary. Pope Saint John Paul II connected the rosary to big and contemporary issues that were on everyone’s minds. I recall vividly when Pope Saint John Paul II urged everyone to pray the rosary asking for world peace in the wake of the September 11 tragedy in 2001. He created five new mysteries during the Jubilee Year of the Rosary. For our own needs at Saint Paul’s Choir School, we have a group of parents who frequently pray the rosary for the school’s intentions every Friday morning. All are welcome to pray the rosary anytime, anywhere for the needs of the school and the boys who study here.
All Saints Day: Friday we will celebrate All Saints Day at SPCS with a wonderful 12:10 liturgy. As a holy day of obligation, we expect that the service will be well attended by others in the Harvard Square Community. Please join us if you can.
Halloween: The boys will not sing Vespers on Thursday, Dec. 31 as we gave them the evening off to join friends and families in their neighborhoods to visit homes. The Men’s Choir will sing the Vespers in you wish to attend. Our Parent’s Guild has a wonderful celebration planned for the afternoon on Thursday as is the tradition at SPCS. Boys may bring their costumes to school and change into them for the party that begins after Mass. The party, organized by 3rd and 4th grade parents and Kai Tsang includes a lunch, snacks and treats and will have game stations and a Halloween Bingo game before painting pumpkins to wrap everything up. Pick up is at 3:15. There are no after school classes or piano or voice lessons.
Germany: The trip planning is moving along at a rapid pace and thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Nicolette and Matthias Erhardt, we have been receiving very positive invitations to perform at some outstanding churches and collaborate with some of the best choir schools in the world. As many of you heard from Mr. Kennerley at the Parent Guild Meeting, these experiences are treasures that stick with the boys for the rest of their lives. If you wish for you son to go to Germany with the school, we will need a deposit of $1,000 by November 4th to secure airplane tickets. All boys in the school are invited. If you need financial assistance, please do not hesitate to ask what we can do to help.
End of Term: The end of the first term is fast approaching (November 6th). Check in with your son to ensure that they have turned all assignments and made up any work missed prior to that date.
Thank you, Tom
