Walden Weekly
School News You Can Use
Dear Walden Families,
Amidst the cold and snowy weather, students and staff at Walden school still had a great week! We were able to host our annual Spelling Bee today for our 4th and 5th grade students. We were very proud of all of our spellers and were excited to bring yet one more event back into our building!
Please make sure you continue to fill out our daily certification form. When this is incomplete or missing, students need to check in with the nurse instead of heading right to their classroom which delays the start of their day. Thank you for your continued diligence with this system. It is very helpful with contact tracing when necessary.
Have a fun and safe weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

"Soup-er Bowl" Food Drive
The Student Lighthouse Team will be hosting a 'Soup-er Bowl' Food Drive starting this Tuesday, February 1st and running through Tuesday, February 15th. We will be collecting canned foods, household cleaning products, and personal care items in the Walden foyer. All donations will go to the Deerfield Food Pantry. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Rosenbaum (arosenbaum@dps109.org) or Ms. Tallman (mtallman@dps109.org) . Thank you!
Fun with our Philanthropy Club!
The Philanthropy Club will be meeting Wednesday, February 2nd at 8:00 am. Any fourth and fifth graders are welcome to come! We will be working on preparing materials for school-wide activities to help support the organization, Project Linus. Fifth graders will also have the opportunity to participate in a special project. If your child will be coming, please fill out this form so I can confirm whether or not we will need a big space. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Ms. Schmidt at nschmidt@dps109.org. Thank you!
Valentine's Day Party Information!
Parents who have signed up to volunteer at the parties will need to bring a driver's license to the office when checking in and be prepared to show a vaccine card or show proof of a negative COVID test in the last week.
Kindergarten & New Student Registration for 2022-23
Online registration for incoming kindergarten and new students for the 2022-23 school year is open! Please share this information with your friends and neighbors who have children heading into the big adventure of kindergarten (who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2022)!
Current District 109 parents do not have to re-register current students in grades K-7 for next year; registration is only for students who will be new to District 109 in the 2022-23 school year (and Early Learner students moving to kindergarten).
Click here to learn more about registration.
Once you register, plan to attend a Drop-In/Drop-Off session at the District Center (517 Deerfield Road, by the Little Red Schoolhouse) to review documentation and verify residency:
February 23 7:30AM-2:30PM
February 24 12PM-6:00PM
February 25 8:00AM-2:00PM
We are still working on planning a "Kindergarten Round-up" event where incoming kindergarteners and their parents are invited to visit the school. More information about Round-up will be coming out after registration.
If you have questions about registration, please contact Rebecca Rudd at rrudd@dps109.org.
