Growing into our Greatness...Not a Moment to Waste!
Executive Team Address
Our first week of school was not only EXCELLENT, it was EPIC!! It was truly amazing to see the positive energy, collaboration, and intentional community building! Watching scholars participate in teambuilding activities, practice routines and procedures, and unpack "growth mindset" was incredible! The cultural arts team has already made a big wave and scholars are raving about our new dance and music programs. Our new teachers have officially "drank the GLA juice" and that is evident. Scholars are happy to be back and our building is overflowing with joy!
Be reminded that community building doesn’t just happen during the first few days of school. It must be ongoing! Remember, we can’t restore what we haven’t built! While this week we are getting our feet wet with testing and instruction, our expectation is that you are dedicating a portion of each day to building classroom community. Continue to practice routines and procedures this week with a focus on academic procedures. I can’t promise you that the road will be easy this year, but it sure will be WORTH it! And we are eager to walk, and serve, alongside each and every one of you! Have an amazing week!
-Dr. Booker and Principal Tyler
This Week at GLA!
Teaching and Learning Corner
Congratulations on a strong start to the year! Since there is "not a moment to waste", our pacing schedules allow us to take this week to review last year’s content and begin to roll out academic procedures.
INSTRUCTIONAL LOOK FOR: EVIDENCE OF ACADEMIC PROCEDURES
Ask yourself the following questions:
What binder or organization systems do you have?
What discussion protocol will you be using?
How do you use Do Nows to build anticipation?
How do you use exit slips to assess scholar understanding?
Instructional Deadlines:
Monday 8AM: Annotated scholar work for math and ELA to your instructional coach
Tuesday EOD: Reviewing iReady testing norms using the PPT sent out last week
Thursday EOD: 2-8 iReady diagnostic completed
“There is no such thing as a self-made man. You will reach your goals only with the help of others.” - Goerge Shinn
