The Kaubin Chronicle
Elizabeth Haddon School - Haddonfield, NJ
Reader's Workshop
In readers workshop, we have been working on mood and tone. Mood and tone sound the same but are very different. The tone of a story is how the author feels when they write it. But the mood of the story is how you feel when you have read it. We have been identifying the mood and tone of our stories. For example, a story with a really sad person might have a mood of sadness. And if someone wrote a thank you letter the tone might be thankful. Thank you.

Writer's Workshop
This month in writers workshop, we have been doing ESSAY BOOT CAMP. We have been learning how to write essays. The first essay we wrote was "I love ice cream." The whole class wrote it. You just heard the thesis statement. The first reason was "there are so many different flavors." Our second reason was that "you can get so many different toppings." Our final reason was "it is refreshing on a hot summer day." Thank you for reading!
Math
Math. Math might sound really sad and boring, but Mrs. Kaubin makes it fun... you know it!!!!
In math, we're learning about fractions. They are very helpful. We have also been learning how to put fractions on number lines. We are also learning about decimals. The first thing you have to do is find the fraction. Then, you see if it is in the hundredths place or the tenths place. If the fraction was 4/100 then the decimal is 0.04 .That’s how you can find the decimal. The way Mrs. Kaubin taught us decimals is she told us to think about it like money like $2.36, then get rid of the money sign 2.36. WALA, it a DECIMAL. Now we know our fractions and decimals.
Science
Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms.,
We are here to tell you about science! So, the first thing we will tell you is that we just finished the electricity unit. In that unit, we worked on circuits and things like that. Every two days we were assigned a new project do do. The last one we did was sending Morse code messages to each other. Now, we are supposed to be doing the environment unit but we do not have any meal worms. The other two fourth grade classes are rotating science units too. 4L just did environments and 4N did soils ,rocks and landforms. Thank you for reading our Kaubin Chronicle. We hope you enjoyed reading it!
Social Studies
By: Nora & Brenden
This month we are going to tell you what we are doing in Social Studies. We finished government and started learning about immigration. For example, we started by researching five cultural groups in America. We did our five cultural groups sheet to do that. The five cultural groups that make up the Melting Pot in America are Latinos, American Indians, European Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans. Mrs. Kaubin broke us up in to groups and each group researched one of those groups. Then, we split up our groups so one person from each group became a new group. We taught each other about the groups we had researched. So if i were teaching them about Asian Americans, I would say everything I researched and they would copy down what I said and ask questions. Then, I would listen to what everyone else is saying and write it down. Thank you! This is all we learned this month. Bye Bye!
Student Led Conferences
Hello! I’m Dardyn and I’m Jared! And we're here to tell you about our classes student-led conferences. During writing, word study and reading, we wrote our reflection sheet from the main subjects such as social studies, math, writing, reading, and science. Dardyn did Math and Writing. Jared did Science and Writing. Other kids could have done social studies, reading, other stuff. We then found three things we were good at in each subject like multiplication, multiplicative number stories, division, subtraction, addition, and/or fractions.
Then, after that, we started making our presentations. We wrote down the stuff above then we started our personal goals. We wrote one skill we are good at and one skill we need to work on. And then that was the end of the conference with us there. At the end, Mrs. Kaubin talks to your parents about things we need to improve on while we we're outside of the classroom. So, we could answer questions about our conference then the conference was over. Thank you for reading our chronicle. We hope you enjoyed.
Barnes and Noble Fundraiser
By: Vandon .R. Schaeffer & Jasper .T. Kucer
Recently, we have been working on the famous Barnes and Noble poster. First, we picked ingredients for the drink. Next, we picked a book. For example, Dog Man or Percy Jackson. Then, we drew a cup and the ingredients. Then, we put a name at the top. Then, Mr. Bissinger vote’s which poster or drink gets to be sold at the Barnes & Noble fundraiser over the weekend. Then, people vote which poster is the best in each grade (just so you know, WE WON!).
The posters in 4K included: Riptides Wrath (Percy Jackon), The Wrath of the Seven Seas (Percy Jackson), Winter Wonderland (Wonder), Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rainbow (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Swirl (Harry Potter), and Series of Unfortunate Events Once in a Lifetime Special (Series of Unfortunate events).
The winning poster of 4K was Winter Wonder Land. The winner that got to be at Barnes & Noble, the school’s winner, was 2O's poster.
Family Traditions Celebration
On Friday December 21st, 2018 we had a family tradition celebration. People brought in their traditions or they shared a tradition that happens during the holidays at their house. They were able to bring their tradition and share it with the class. And they could bring in food to share with the class. For example, if someone came with food they would have to share it with the class. For example, Jasper's family makes homemade raviolis, so he brought them in to share with us. THEY WERE SO GOOD!
It was fun to share our food, so that is what the family traditions are.
Fish
Our fish are a reliable class pet. They also can teach us responsibility. For example, feeding them every morning. The Community Leader feeds them every morning. They are kind of a living lesson. We hope you enjoyed!
